I got my upgraded Shoebox back yesterday

I got the Shoebox back yesterday. I had sent it in to get the finned pistons, hardened rods and the belt drive installed.

Of course I had to remove the motor to send it in as instructed by Tom.

Entire thing took less than ten days, it was quick, but only having 3 66’s and 1 44cf and a 69 ci tanks at hand full, I was running around 3300 PSI when the Shoebox came back.

Don’t suppose I have a substance abuse problem do you?

I unwrapped it and it was, considerably lighter, they really gut it to put that belt drive in, the center sprocket is completely removed.

I had to watch the video on how to put it back together, and that was the difficult part, my satelite feed keeps cutting off videos and I took 40 minutes to watch a 15 minute show, but that is not Shoeboxes fault is it.

I was waiting for the last part of the video on how to reattach the motor using the spacers they provide, it seem the motor has to set out a little more to line up with the belt wheel.

I had previously stripped a motor bolt, and made a new one out of all thread. IT was of differend diameter and I worried I would have to drill and retap one of the new spacer nuts for the all thread size, but I found my old stripped rod and due t the new design, I was able to cut off the stripped section and make it work.

IT took 30 minutes to get it back together, it was easy, I exchanged the gear drive on the motor for the belt drive, and got it all in. It is much easier to reistall the motor because you can get to all the bolts easier without the center sprocket.

I had some problems at first, when I started it up it ran very quiet, but as I was charnging the line without opening the tank, when the pressure rose the SHoebox started making a thumping noise. I did not have the belt tight enough and the noise was it slipping. So I loosened the mounting screw and with a large rubber mallet tapped the shoebox housing gently, while holding the motor stationary and it tightend up.

And yes it is very quiet and smooth running, when it gets up in pressure to the point that it is taping the shutoff switch, it starts getting noisy again, but nothing like it was. I have a 6 gallon 1.5 regulated 150 PSI compressor, so it does not cme on as often as the smaller panckes, so the entire operatin is very quiet.

My wife checks to see if it the compressor has stopped, by opening a window so I can shut it down for the night, she can’t do that anymore from the house because it is so quiet.

The new ribbed pistons are made by cutting small groves in the housing, and they have a different nut on the piston end, I have not torn them aprt yet, but have no need to at this time. They run cool, but I have a fan on miy Shoebox, actuall two one on the mote=or also, so it runs cool all the time.

It filled a 44 cf tank from 3000 PSI to 4500 in three hours so it runs about the same as before for effiencty.

Next step for me on this Shoebox is to get the McMaster-Carr shutoff switch, it is 69 bucks, Ihave it im my cu[omputer favorites, but I just bought that Royale 500 so now it will have to wait, It will be very quiet then.
