I have an AIR GUN question this time. :)
I got excited buy the thought of having a decent size collection of neat rifles by the people like Rob3dr and WOK. They have all these cool rifles. The problem I am having is that I never seem to be able to grab one and feel confident right away that I can hit a pest or something. I seem to need to lock into the one I am using and stick with it to be grab it and shoot accurate. Do you guys rotate them in some sort of cycle of months or something? Or maybe there is a secret to setting them up to be ready to go? I am getting the feeling I would rather just have one or two favorites and leave it at that. Any wisdom?

Machine gun……ummmmm…maybe i should not have mentioned GB. His name just popped up in my head. PHEWWWW man, guess you don’t like his practices huh? OK, then try to get a DAQ if you can get on the list. OK, forget big bores……..ummmm what about a………..I GOT IT, what about a tricked out Crosman 2240-2250-2260 pistol with all the bells and whistles. Looking at your list of guns, you really have all the best of the best already. But you have no pistols. Thats what you need (only my opinion) to add to your collection. A tricked out CROSMAN 22xx gun.
Or if you don’t really like pistols, then i see you don’t have a AA410 series gun. I would like one of those myself.

Nice guns no doubt but I’ll pass on his business and deposits practice. I can personally pay for the gun in full the day it’s presented to me (assuming I want one of course) and have no need for his payment system. I don’t care for his no refund policy and in the event of death, you’re also out of luck. He blows it off as merely “dollars a day”. If I pay in $3k, he states that, “you aren’t risking $3k – you’re risking coffee money per day”. That may be so but it’s my three thousand dollars of “coffee money” that he has and I risked. Anyone who believes otherwise, needs their head examined.
And, as far as his piano theory — Sh*t happens. He may be the best driver in the world and so are many drunk drivers; what if the two accidentally meet?! He may be the best airgun builder in the world but accidents do happen. He states, “My chances of sticking around long enough to make your rifle are about as good as yours are of hanging around long enough to pay for it. We take the chance together”. The problem is I’m taking all the “chance”!
For those of you who want a Gary Barnes gun, his payment program may be a blessing. For me it’s an accident waiting to happen. No disrespect intended as his gun are works of art and quite functional too. 🙂

It depends on your memory retention (not being funny…LOL). You can have 8 guns sighted in at different ranges. What comes in to play is….REPETITION/CONSISTENCY of what you do with those guns. If you shoot those 8 guns all the time and keep everything the same, then the gun will always do the same thing. If you can remember POI with each gun while using each guns favorite projectile and fill pressure then that’s what counts. So if you WANT to buy more guns, then go ahead dude, just practice with them.
Had a buddy once that went hunting with me all the time and he would use 3 different pellets while hunting jack rabbits. He would miss quite often. There were a few reasons why he missed but more importantly, the 1 reason being switching ammo while shooting at VARYING ranges and not knowing the performance of each pellet at those varying ranges. When you go from a EUN JIN to a PREDATOR to a KODIAK, you should expect to miss more often than you hit. Me on the other hand, i used 1 sometimes 2 different pellets. But, the second pellet in my particular gun would hit VERY, VERY, VERY close to the MAIN pellets POI out to 50 yards. This was easy for me to remember. So when he got frustrated, i would tell him it was because he kept switching ammo and it was not the guns fault, he said, “SO DO YOU, i’ve seen you switch ammo”. I said yeah, “BUT I CAN REMEMBER WERE THE 2 DIFFERENT PELLETS HIT AT VARYING RANGES…..YOU CAN’T”. So that made all the difference. Consistently knowing were my PROJECTILES impacted is what made the difference.
Rob also made a good point and its something that i do EACH AND EVERY TIME i drive with my guns……………………..SIGHT YOUR GUN IN BEFORE TAKING A SHOT at game. Key word being “DRIVE”. To me, one of the most underrated things most people do before shooting at anything (especially living targets) after DRIVING to a hunting spot is to sight in. Transporting guns will most likely change POI somewhat (public roads). My current hunting buddy found this out after missing targets repeatedly. After we drove to our SIGHT in location, he would RELAX and sit back and watch me sight my guns in. I would ask him to join me with his gun and he would say, “i’m good, i killed a pigeon sitting on my fence 2 days ago, so i’m good”. We would then drive to our hunting spot and he would take his first shot and guess what…………MISS!!. Ground Squirrel or Rabbit…GONE!!! I just simply laughed. But he knew what he had to do.
So enough of me YAPPIN’. you get the point. Most guys here that know there guns, know them because they do WHATEVER it takes for them to remember what it is they need to do with each and every gun. And that’s what counts. So if you are happy with your 2 guns, get out and practice some more.
One of my favorite things to do to learn “RANGES”:
1 bag of GOLF TEES
Few dozen eggs (eggs somewhat represent the head size of some small game. You can shoot smaller targets if you choose to. Eggs are explosive though and you know when ya hit em and they are BIO DEGRADEABLE)
Set up EGGS on golf tees at varying KNOWN ranges out to 100 yrds.
Get a rangefinder and trajectory chart from chairgun
Take your gun of KNOWN power and accuracy with 1 pellet and SCRAMBLE THEM EGGS and be sure to get it on video so we all can see.

i have a P1 , B51,Mac1 LD, RWS 48, RWS 850
i shoot them all alot
i have 19 yards in the basement and if i really want i can open the Bilco doors and set a target on the back fence and get 35 yards
but i can also drive to the inlaws 10 mins away and shoot out to 300 yards
or go to my camp and shoot to 100 yards
if i have anything in the yards i know the LD is set and will hit anything , anywhere i aim under 30 yards
and the P1 i use for up to 15 yards
the b51 is nasty to at 40 fpe i can crank her out to 50 and only have to aim 1 inch high
the 850 is fun for when i just wanna hit the spinner quickly
i put a 12 oz tank on her and she shoot alot

ok, so my problem seems to be that I have each rifle sighted in at different ranges. I sure can fix that. I am not sure I could keep the logs that some of you do. That seems like a lot of paperwork.
