I like high FPS of my guns….
It seems with high FPS PCP guns the pellet just flatten out to nothing or just turn to dust, I like 940 in my 22 and 25 guns minimum.
I do have a Mutant 22 short that I just love except I been having pellets ricochet back at me a few times, Its shooting low 800 to high 700s
My back stop is a rubber pad from tractor supply, or a 1/4 inch steel plate, Never have this problem with my Crickets.
I shot a euro dove today , The pellet went through the dove hit the steel back stop ricochet back and hit me dead center chest, Still had a little blood on the pellet from the dove ,
15 gr JSB pellets 38 yards to the back stop,
That’s why I do not like slow shooting guns, I want the pellet to embed into the wood or rubber or turn to dust on the steel,
I do try and remember the safety glasses with the Mutant 22 shorty.
The veteran Mutant standard 25 is about three pay cheeks away, I think I will send it straight to get tuned to 940 FPS , Fuck the shot count.

That’s why I use the rubber to muffle the sound of the pellet, But behind the rubber is a 2′ x 16 ‘ hard wood back stop,
My steel plates are in different areas of the yard with tile bricks behind the steel , The steel is in areas where high shot counts are fired and I have shot through tile bricks , OOPS.
I do think pellets are not bullets , and apples are not oranges, A lot softer lead and a lot lower FPS,
I know when I change over to the JSB 18gr pellets the Mutant will be shooting even slower, But maybe the 18 gr is softer lead . I do not know?
I just know I have many shots coming out of my Crickets and the pellets are as flat as paper , Never have I had a Cricket ricochet on a flat surface
My Mutant goes through the rubber and almost sticks in the wood, The pellets are intact but deformed.
I may be pissing up the wrong tree but I like my PELLETS to disintegrate or smash to nothing when hitting a solid object ..
That takes a lot of speed, I guess about 940 does it with pellets,
OK , Maybe I need a 12 shot tune on my 22 Mutant shorty, Its worth it to me because I really like the gun, Hell I done bought a after market stock, an extra cz barrel. A super turn will be just more money in the pit, :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
As my brother says , We all got to be idiots who pays 1,500 for a pellet gun+ scope 2000, plus all the doodads 2400. :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
and I try and explain I shoot year around every day, He shoots a couple times a year at the range ,
Its a sport nothing else, or hobby, or past time, ah forget its something.

Mike, if you angle the backstop steel plate towards the ground, the pellet should be redirected, loose power and not ricochet (depending a bit on the material on the ground, though…). Did this with a 3mm steel plate in mine, no issues so far.
Another way would be to hang the plate from a chain on each top corner, so it can move under the impact and redirect the pellet towards the ground (if plate is not too heavy and wouldn’t move under pellet impact), just like the steel gongs used with long-range pb shooting. Did this with a 1.5mm plate, it deformed a little, but redirected the pellets well.
As for the rubber, I usually glue it to the back of the steel plate to muffle the impact sound.

Ya. I got a small burse in the center of my chest,
I think 140 FPS makes a lot of difference in the expansion of the lead pellet,
My Crickets that shoot only 140 fps faster go through the rubber and stick in the wood. 18gr JSB and 25 gr JSB, On the metal they explode nothing to some back,
Maybe the 16gr JSB may be harder lead, I did not think about that.
I am just about out of the 16 gr anyway, I want all my 22 shooting the same lead and my 25s also.
Please use safety classes , Your eye would and could not take a hit like my chest did,
Plus you would have dove blood in your eye from the pellet, as if it mattered ,

Dat would hurt Spinj! I agree who gives a shit about shot count when you have your compressor and tank. My Vulcan and Cricket both shoot extremely well at 880 FPS. I don’t think the birds I’m shooting know the difference between 880 and 940 FPS.
You sure as heck don’t want to have this bullet ricochet and hit you squarely in the chest or head, or worse, the nuts:
these are airguns, guys why dont you shoot .17HRM instead if you want speed 2000-3000fps. and yes you can go out 190yards no problem

even high speed bullets richochet/change direction dramatically if impacting under an angle
iride , I’m with you , really do not give a shit about shot count . I’m more into first shot first kill accuracy above
all else , that is all that matters to me . Not very often is a second shot needed to make a clean kill , but , shit
happens and sometimes one is just going to have to pull the trigger one more time to make the kill . :2cents:
