I’ll be getting a benchrest rifle soon…
I’m thinking of getting a benchrest rifle soon and a keeper at the same time.
My choices are:
Theoben MKII (40fpe) or FX Royale 400.
I want/need a .22 cal version only since this is the only caliber BR competition in my country.
I read that the FX has a good balance than the theoben, but it’s not important to me.
The Royale has ST barrel whereas the Theoben has LW barrel (or Anschutz?)
A tuned Theoben is more powerful than the Royale
A Royale has more shot count than the theoben?
Yes, the Royale is the new generation rifle but needs to prove itself but the Theoben Rapid is battle proven even in competitions. It’s like the Rapid is the 1911 and the Royale is the Springfield XDM. Hehehe! Just a thought.

I hear there’s lot’s of interest in BR circles in the RAW TM1000 in .22. I have one in .177 and it’s an impressive piece of kit.

Thanks for the quick reply. They say it needs to be tuned or get it from AZ or PAG. I’m not from the US so I was thinking to get it from StraightShooters since they have online payment portal plus they can adjust the rifle to 40Fpe with an additional $150 for the QF and guage. But this shop is just an option.
No, I thought only the Royale is adjustable in power. There are no theobens here or any US made rifle. Government is strict here and luckily, I got my Condor and Marauder and some Break barrels made by BSA and Crosman. Airgunners here are to the extreme. Like me, airgunners here rely on locally made PCP’s.
Benchrest 100yards shooting 10 boars and 120yards shooting rams.
I hope this will be very easy for the Theoben because my Condor can without the wind.
What is the barrel of the Theoben now? LW’s or Anschutz?
Where do you think can I get a good tuned Theoben? AZ or PAG? I hope they accept foreign credit cards.

XD, I like your choice. If i were you, i would get the Rapid. As far as shot count goes, the rapid can be tuned DOWN to get more shots. But i know you know that. The Rapid is also HIGHLY moddable with lots of aftermarket parts being made for it.
The FX400 is a damned good gun and i’ve shot them and LIKE them. Its a very light gun with a great feel to it and it’s pretty POINTABLE to boot.
But for a BENCH GUN………i say Rapid

I read that AZ tuned Rapids are very popular. What are the benefits of this tune? Will it improve the accuracy? Shot count? Can’t the stock rapid shoot out of the box?
