Q:

I’m Taking a Guess !!

The one major thing that I see folks complain about the Texan is noise and the length… I’m making a bet Airforce comes out with a shorter shrouded version next year … as right now folks are looking elsewhere for a shorter and quieter 45 … take a look at the length of a Texan with shroud, I can tell you I would never own it. A 56″+ long gun is getting out of hand.

I could deal with even a 4″ fatter shroud on a 30 inch barrel — It may not make it supper quiet, but it would knock off the huge “gun crack sound” that the gun has now, alerting anyone nearby you just fired a gun. My buddy has a Texan, and when he shoots it in his back yard (5 acres) he still gets the occasional call from neighbors asking if it is him shooting or is it someone else.

I can categorically tell you I don’t want folks within a 50-75 ish yard area to hear what they can interpolate as the sound of a gun going off ! All my guns are not super silent, maybe some not totally neighbor friendly with close neighbors, but none of them sound as if you just fired a gun shot … there is no crack !

Now —— I just bought a Benjamin Bulldog, and that opens up a can of worms, as there is only ONE place that I feel comfortable that I can go that is 20 min from my home to sight this gun in when I get it. My usual spots that I shoot my Condors and ? are off limits because of sound. Now once that it is sighted in, even if I go after Yote and may shoot only one or two shots … the neighbors (600yds away) can still hear the blast I bet. I must find a way to quiet her down.

This last paragraph is exactly the same for a Texan, if I got one. For me to use it in any area that I now shoot without perking up the ears of neighbors, its bark must be greatly quieted with the length not getting longer as it get to a point of the gun being unwieldy.

How many of you have concerns about the sound causing unwanted attention and the length hindering you in the field …Your thoughts ?

I have more then my share of powder burners so for me a air gun is for the back yard. I have just over 6 acers and the condor SS is about the max I would go for sound. Just to be nice to the folks next door. Just remember if needed the first shot from a .22 or .410 is free 😉

LOL, LOL That is very funny !

Yes, my Condors in 25 cal with a R&L shroud are really as loud as I want to go even if I did not have neighbors …. I don’t want the noise !!

Someone needs to make a clean slip in shroud keeping the same shape as the Bulldog frame and extending it out maybe 5 inches or so …. That would be great … just like one of the posters did on another forum … a very nice unit.
