I shot the Royale at 50, 102 and 150 yards today
I finally had a break in the weather today to try the Royale 500 past 40 yards and not risk drowning, there was a 1 to 2 mph wind that was varible going left to right. I used only Kings and a singleshot adapter.
I shot from the top of a grape bin with a front and rear Caldwell Range bag.
I set up targets at 50, 102 and also shot on my metal 150 yard target.
At 50 yards, everything seemed to want to go into .50 inches or slightly under, but I did get one group that was .39 inches for 5 shots.
At 102 yards, which was where the grape bin and target just happened to be from each other, I shot a lot of 1.5 inch groups, but I also got one .50 6 shot group and a .80 & 1.0 inch 5 shot goups.
The more I shot the tighter the groups got, a learning curve I suppose as I found out how the rifle liked to be held. When shooting long range, 100 and further, I will shoot a 6 shot group when I see a obvious flyer I can’t explain on me or wind, and take the best 5 of the 6, a advantage I give myself because I do not sort my pellets.
However the 6 shot .5 group today happened because the targets were getting crowded, I suspected I had dropped a shot 4 inches, but realized it was a sighter from one of my first groups. I fired the 6th shot and it joined the other 5. Dropping any of the shots out of the 6 shot group would not have made it any smaller, it was just a nice round 6 shot half inch group.
At 150 yards on the metal plated target, I hit right on the 24 MOA mark on the Hollands reticle with a 100 yard zero. It consistantly shot 4.5 inches again and again and again. I would have no qualms about shooting at a 150 yard lasered crow with the rifle. One 5 shot group I fired three in a row into around an inch, but the other two took the group to the usual 150 yard 4.5 inches.
For now I am just going to keep it sighted in for 100 yards, it seems to want to perform a little better than I was shooting today, and I want to see what it can do when I am having a ‘on’ day. Having said that I shot better than I have ever shot with a air rifle today.

Please try 200 yards when ever possible, I seem to find that ST barrels are dead accurate upto 100 maybe 140s but once you stretch them past that mark they tend to loose their edge, so I really would appreciate someone like you to give that a try.
I normally zero my mid power rifles, 30 to 60 FPE, at 50 yards.
The more powerful air rifles like the Ranger 45 and the 25 LBT, I zero at 70 yards.
The 500 is a nice rifle, but when I reach for a rifle to kill something, it is still the Royale 400.
As of now though the 500 is starting to edge out the Ranger 45 for being the tightest grouping rifle I have at 100 yards.
It is fun to watch those pellets print out tight groups.
I think the best of all worlds is that short rifle Johnny Seweden created with a 400 bottle and a shorter barrel and LDC on the 500. IT is 42 inches long and still gets 45 FPE.

Impressive shooting by both the gun and the shooter. The 500 is definitely a tack driver, it really shines from 40-100yrds. 43-45FPE is a sweet spot with the JSB Kings. Your groups show it can easily manage kill zone hits on pests & small game out to 120+ yrds and the .25 will still have more than enough FPE for humane kills at those distances.
I thought a 50yrd zero on my 500 was “long” :wink:.
Fine shooter Mr. RC. Damn fine. Gotta love the 25 for 75 and 100 yard shooting. Lotsa thump at that range also. Can’t wait till ya pop a squirrel with that gun at those ranges.

Any idea how far out drop, non-linear, is happening?
Most of us with 500s haven’t been sorting pellets, aside from obviously dented ones. Yet, the gun delivers. If you sit two .25 Kings on a table, side by side, skirts touching, it’s about a half inch. Helps to appreciate those half-inch groups made without sorting pellets. 😯
The oddball fliers could be pellet imperfections before loading or inconsistent skirt expansion in the barrel. To truly sort, we’d need a microscope in addition to an accurate scale!
You just got the gun and you’re already honing in on its feel. It’ll be interesting to see what you’re doing with it after a year!
For me the Rohyale 500 is all about longer ranges, I think a shooter with only short ranges would be better served with a Royale 400 because of the size.
It is very quiet.
But then where does logic come into air gun ownership. 😕
I need to revisit the Royale 400 at 100 yards, I only shot it at that range once, but shot it at 150 and 260 alot, odd.
This thing really does shine at 100 yards from a bench. I am assuming it would be a stellar ground squirrel rifle from 100 to 150 yards in those eastern Oregon alf alfa fields in the early summer before the growth starts, where you have hundreds of them in full buda pose looking at you.
