Idea for all you modders…
What about a quick change barrel system? Instead of what we do now, where we have to take out the four set screws, take out the barrel, replace the barrel, and put the screws back on, what about something that like, twisted in? I think that would be a cool little addition.
What I’m thinking of is something like this. At about 1:20 you can see how the aug’s barrel switches out. Maybe we could have something like that for the airforce guns? 🙂

What if we make it easy and make it so you only have to unscrew 4 little set screws to remove the barrel? 🙄
Hey Shadoh what if the bushing stayed in the gun fixed and you threaded the barrel to screw into the bushing?
Ideally a scope mount should be attached directly to the barrel, IMO. Then you can remove the barrel and replace it without changing POI.
I had given this some thought last year sometime. My thought was to do it all with new bushings. You would have to have two piece bushings. The breach end bushing would have one piece that mounts in the gun with a threaded center hole. Its mate on the barrel would also be threaded. The barrel end bushing would mount in the gun and have a smooth, conical shaped hole with the barrel having its reverse shaped cone.
You would slide the barrel down the tube and screw it into the back bushing while the front cone shape auto aligned itself as you tightened it down. This would be a very accurate and repeatable way to do it. The big problem would be doing this in the space available. The back threaded barrel bushing would have to be smaller than the front cone shaped bushing so that it would pass through on its way home.
I think I gave up the idea after I read somewhere that every barrel bore isnt perfectly centered with the outside of the barrel. If thats the case then screwing in the barrel wouldnt work out so well.
You only need repeatable optic mounts if you remove and reattach the optics.
If the whatever quick release barrel system someone dreams up is crap then no amount of fancy QD Weaver rings is going to fix it.
That would be pretty cool, I’ve given a little thought to that myself. But to be useful without having to resight whenever you change barrels you would want two sets of optics too. Add a dovetail to picatinny adapter to the frame and invest in good repeatable QD scope mounts for both setups. Would get more expensive than practical in a hurry.

Yeah, basically it would have been more trouble than it was worth and you would still need to re zero your scope so I saw no real gain.
