Q:

Ideal reg. pressure for .177

Greeting to all and happy holidays.

The reg on my R3 in .177 is set at 130b . Tried to play with the HS to solve fps fluctuation by turning the It to top speed then bring it down a little to ensure best ES . But the top speed was to high for 10gr jsp, sending it at 970fps.

So , how far should i turn the reg adjuster cw to get to the range of 890 900 fps? Is there something else to do to get better ES.

Thanks and best regards
Adham

Ok.. Back on the subject. I’ve received a reg tester from John and adjusted the reg down to 100bar. Still it was shooting JSB 10gr too hot at 980fps with HST 1 turn ccw from max speed. I then terned furthet to 915fps. I know it’s not the reccommended method, but i needed to quiet to hammer strike as well. Started recording speed and shot count from 140b downward. And here is the result

Maybe not the best ES , but imagine how many shots you can get from a full fill.
Amazing gun IMHO

Greetings to All;

Last night i chronied the gun again, and i used two chronies. The Combro attached to the muzzle and the Shooting chroney Beta one foot away. From 210bars i had 90 good shots , and anothe 40 above average speed shots. The question is. Why there is a gap between the two chronies? e.g , Combro average speed for the first 90 shots was 955fps. While the Beta gave an average of 975fps using jsp 10gr.

Is that normal?! And which one to follow?

Your kind input would be highly appreciated.

Wingman;
I packed HST to turns out and started my way up from 800 to 1010fps max. Then turned HST in 1/2 turn, fps was still high and jumping around. Then , made a full turn in and shot four 10 shots groups.

Group1.

H 982
A 975
ES 12
SD 3.74

Group2

A 977
ES 13
SD 3.87

Group 3
L 972
H 981
A 976
ES 9
SD 2.82

Group4
L 973
H 981
A 976
ES 8
SD 2.82
JSB 10 gr

It’s not the best setup, but much better than before. I don’t know how stable the pellet would be at this speed. Will see after 1k or 2 i will look into adjusting the reg.

The best way to lower your ES at any given reg pressure is to back your HST right off then slowly wind it up firing over the chrono at every hst adjustment until you reach your max velocity and then back your hst off a half to a full turn.. the ES will be at its best in that setting.

Thank you all for your replies. I will keep the speed as is for now. My main worry is the ES that goes to over 30fps. The gun is unused, but was on the diplay with the dealer for quite long time. Last night i striped it , cleaned the reg washers and changed the o rings. Will try to chroney it again and post results.

Wingman, i enjoy watching your videos.

Thanks again

The bottom group at the end was shot with the 10.34gr JSBs at 100 meters. I found that it shoots the 10.5gr Crosman Premiers better in the windy conditions but both pellets are much the same in calm weather.. both pellets shoot single hole groups at 50 meters.

Heres a test I did looking for the most stable, flat shooting “long range pellet” in .177cal

Heres the 10.5gr Prems sorting out some sparrows..

Those 10.34gr JSBs love speed, my steyr shoots them best at 1020fps..

Hey Mate,

Any video to share shooting at 1020 fps with a .177 using those JSB’s that loves the speed as per the above?

Check your the pellets if they are flying straight by using a slow motion cam.
any speed will be great if the pellet is flying without wobbling 890 -900 fps is the best what you can get with a .177
Try the Baracuda Match 4.52 your gun will adore them.
share your video if possible.

Try 1/8th of a turn to start with and go from there
