Impact .25 Questions

Today I got home to my new Impact .25 sitting on the doorstep. Unboxing revealed that it came with the Euro Shroud. I didn’t know they were shipping with those. I made no request for that type of shroud, but in any case, the gun is practically silent except for the click of the hammer hitting the valve stem. It is THAT quiet.

I have a couple of issues/questions right off the bat:

1. Velocity at MAX setting/Valve at default setting, (two long lines and two short lines), for Exact King Heavy II is only 817 fps. There is a lot of slop, (about 1/8″), in the Power Wheel cam assembly when set on MAX. I have seen Ernest’s video for taking out the slop for the .30 cal but would that also apply to the .25? Should I take up the slack??? Or just set the valve at a higher setting. I think guys are seeing around 860-875 for EK Heavies at MAX setting and the Valve set higher.

2. My regulator setting reads 125 or maybe 130. I’ve been reading where most receive their’s set to 140-150. Mine came from AOA and I hear they set to 140….so perhaps my manometer reading may not be accurate?

Anyway I’ve only put about 3 mags of shots through it and am still on the learning curve. If anyone has any input, I’d certainly welcome it.

Thanks

KP

The Impact continues to break in and I’m noticing groups getting a little tighter. About 700-1000 rounds through it now. No major issues. Had to adjust the PW slack, trigger and regulator and that’s about it so far. Barrel hold down screw still loosens up but will fix that soon. Barrel gets very dirty but I think that’s break in going on. Anyway a photo of my latest target….shot under windy (6-8 mph) conditions and changing directions constantly. Got 9 shots off before running out of pellets during a brief lull in the wind.
Velocity at PW = 5 and Valve = 4 with EK Heavies MKII 33.9 gn:
Ave V.= 852
ES = 10
SD = 2

CtC= 7/16″ (1.2cm). So far so good. :8:

I know what you’re talking about….I lived in Sweden and Denmark for 8 years. Remember it well! Hope you get a break in the weather at some point.

Glad to hear you’re getting some shooting done! Over here in my part of the world it is -4°C (24,8°F) and the land is covered in Snow and ice. The last Place I want to be right now is outside trying to shoot some targets. 😐

Hey Cricket,
Got back last night….first thing I did was get the Impact out and put a dab of AC-3 adhesive on the threads of the Power Wheel adjuster screw. I had trouble with changing velocities and bad groups and found that the screw was gradually backing out as I shot.The max setting had a gap that one should see at setting 3 or 2. Got out this morning and checked things over the Chrony….looked good. Ave.:850 fps with Exact King Heavies power setting @ 5. The gun is starting to act like it should.

You asked for a targets at 50 and 100 yards. It was a bit windy today so just went for 50 yd., using Heavies MK I and MKII.

The top photo is MKI, 15 shots. Size:13/16″

Bottom photo: MKII, 10 shots. Size: 5/8″ The wind or me caused the one hit outside the group.
The gun has only had a tin worth of shots through it so I’d like to recheck at 1500 shots. All in all, pleased with how it’s shooting now.

Elmerfudd…I might be inclined to agree with you on that but the hammer throw screw on the gen1 Marauder also backed out as did the bolt probe cocking screw. All had to be lock-tited. My Condor SS top hat also had to be lock-tited as well to prevent grub screw backout. So I’m not too worried about it. I think that the Impact will be updated with respect to the barrel hold down screw and the Power Wheel adjust screw down the road. Until then no biggie on home remedies for those.

I’ve come to the conclusion after reading far too many posts concerning screws backing out on the Impact that this gun was over engineered with features but repeatably was sacrificed. It’s a good concept but it provides the user way too many tuning options. Too many screws, too many knobs that has to be tuned/turned and over time they backout or simply become loose. FX may need to dumb down the Impact to keep it more reliable instead of offering all the bells and whistles it currently has.

Those targets will be interesting, good luck on whatever it is that you’re doing.

Hey guys, I had to go out of town but right before leaving, I saw my velocities dropping. I discovered that the Power Wheel adjust screw was backing out. So when I get back I’ll re adjust and put a little VC-3 adhesive on the threads to lock. Should do the trick and tighten up some jumpy ES readings and POI shifts.

Then I’ll start going for some 50 and 100 yard groups.
Back in early November. Missing the Impact. I had it 6 days before having to leave town….D’OH! :angrymob:

quote Drumsguns:

Ginuwine, I took out the PW slack but it did nothing. So I upped the regulator from 120 to 140+bar. That did the trick. Now it shoots at 855 on PW 5 with EK Heavies.

Cricket…as per your request, a couple of pictures:

Glad you got it worked out, look forward to grouping and future post.

Thank you!

When you have the time, could you post some groups at 100y?

Drum: you should take the slack out of the power wheel and not worry about the reg pressure. That is my suggestion, as for the shroud all 25 and 30 come with the fixed shourds (Euro).

I am interested in this gun so feel Free to share any and all info because I’ll be reading it. A few pics would be nice too 😉

Hey Cricket,

Man, any input is welcomed. I think I’ll not mess with the regulator and assume that it’s set properly with an inaccurate gauge. There’s a reason Ernest changed his…. After thinking about things, I think that it would be perfectly fine to take the slack out of the power wheel. At factory valve setting of 4, and on MAX, that pellet should be traveling a lot faster….. I think at least 50-60 fps faster.

Interesting note: In the manual, they have put a sticker over the original suggested max regulator setting of 150 bar. It now reads, 143 bar.

Can’t help you a whole lot here but the FX gauges aren’t that good, Ernest swapped his out for Wika wich is better in every way. (But they are bigger)
