Q:

Inexpensive Talon Hammer

DaveD posted about these and how you can use them as a heavy hammer. Here’s mine that I’m using and some pictures. Here is Dave’s Thread –

http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3156

First – Stock parts. On the left is a Condor Hammer weight, on the right is an older style all delrin Talon SS Hammer

I was using the above parts in a Talon SS with a Condor tank for quite a while and getting good results.

Few months ago I got a new frame and I couldn’t bring myself to put the steel hammer weight in it – But I had a new Blodnob valve and needed the extra weight – Thats where Dave’s post came in. I was going to buy brass and delrin rod – But decided I’d take a look in my hardware store.

This is what I got – Bronze bushing and 2 nylon bushings. $5.50 for the Bronze and $0.98 for the two pieces of Nylon

I turned down the entire OD of the Bronze, squared the ends and then using a boring bar to make the ID concentric with the OD at each end.

Then I turned down one end of each piece of nylon so they would friction fit into the end of the new proto hammer. One end got a chamfer for the sear.

The old hammer and weight weighs 42.4 grams

The new one weighs 65.6 grams

The old Hammer weighed 15 grams and by itself would only get 400 fps from the blodnob valve.

New hammer gets 1160fps with 14.3gr hammer and max preload on hammer spring and the valve only turned in enough to slightly compress the valve spring. Going to be adjusting it to give me around 30 fpe.

Cost less than $7 and took about 20 minutes to make, Thanks Daved !

Thanks a lot zo6, that will prob work better than trying to turn a groove in the neck ,hahaha thanks again

spin down the OD so the nylon fits inside the bronze bushing

quote yel01z06:

for those of you who do not have a lathe if you buy the bushing and washers I will turn them no charge for you just to help out if u want one just shoot me a pm and we will get r done

what a nice guy,

If I’m using my dremel to spin the nylon. And a grinded to a point allen key to cut the stock, how should I cut it to get it to stay on the bronze bushing?

bushing is 1″ by 2″ nylon washer is 1″ by 3/8 no need for any $ just wanted to help some people out that did not have the tools to make one they do not take that long to make

So 1″diax2″ brnze bushing and looks like 1″ x 1/4″ or 3/8″ thk plastic washers ?
Or am I totally off?
