INSTALLED SHROUD,AND ACCURACY GOES SOUTH?
My friend has a Talon in .177 with a 18inch barrel. We installed a full length shroud to quiet the gun down,and now the accuracy is terrible? It shot extreemly well before the shroud was installed. Any ideas? Barrel bushing too tight or loose? The baffels don’t show any signs of clipping? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Ron

Thanks,ericw! It is the R&L shroud,but has the alum bushing. The tube threads onto the bushin easy,and seems to line up perfectly? He said it still has problems with the accuracy at long range? He is shooting H&N Baracudas. It shoots into the same hole at 25yds. He has also ordered another scope for the gun. He got the AF 3X6X40MD and can’t keep the zero set on it. The turrets turn very easy,and are always getting turned out of adjustment. Ron
It sounds like you have an R&L shroud. If so, the set screw which is on one side of the bushing only, will move the bushing slightly off center when tightened. The frame holds the shroud in one position and the bushing needs to align perfectly with the shroud tube. If not left loose, this can cause the shroud tube threads to bind on the bushing and in fact they can become “cold welded” together. I had this happen. The design has been changed from having a steel shroud tube that screws onto an aluminum bushing to having them both be made from aluminum. The steel tube easily ate the aluminum threads if not aligned properly when screwed together.
I ended up having to buy a new shroud to fix my problem. Be careful when screwing in the tube and if you feel any resistance.. stop and get them lined up.

We found the problem! In the instructions that came with the shroud,it said to leave the front barrel bushing(the one supplied with the shroud)set screw a little loose,so the bushing could wobble a small amount,on the barrel. We removed the barrel,and tightened it up some,and Bingo! She is right back to driving tacks! 😀 After thinking about it,the orginal front factory bushing wasn’t loose on the barrel,before I removed it? 😕 I’m not sure what having it a little loose,is supposed to do? I would guess it is a clipping issue also I have had many shrouds and have experienced it before. Sometimes you can hear and see it, other times the only thing you will notice is accuracy issues. If at all possible, enlarge the bore a little bit.

Baracudas (Kodiaks) are famous for becoming unstable at longer ranges. If you are getting one holers at 25 yd, and bad accuracy at longer range, try the JSB’s. That is what most Airgunners have found to work.
If there is a galling problem with the threads, go the the Auto parts store, and ask for anti-seize compound. It is sold in the adhesive isle usually. It is made by several companies. Permatex is one.
It is used for bolts in alu. blocks and heads to prevent the very problem you are talking about here.
If you cannot find it, you can find dielectric grease at Lows-Home Depot in larger sizes. Very inexpensive. It will work just about as well.
And get rid of that pos scope. Send it back for refund, or exchange for another product. Not an exchange. They SUCK!!! 👿
