Installing offset mod questions. (clipping)
I am wondering how you guys keep the offset mod baffles from turning when you tension the baffle nut? I have watched Ernest’s video but just wondering how everyone else does it. Also how much tension is really needed, hand tight + half a turn, a whole turn?

I would try something different. You can remove some tiny amont of the material with sanding paper like that:
In your case it should be removed at 12 o’clock to move the shroud a little downwards.
Greg, I noticed that your EDgun offset mod hole was just over 7mm in the picture you posted. Did you have any clipping? Mine measures 6.80mm…
Last night I couldn’t resist and I set up a flood light to shoot a few groups. I noticed my groups were a little larger than normal and checked the baffles for clipping. It is pretty clear to see that the pellets are striking the very end of the moderator at 6 o’clock. I used a q tip to clean the faint lead streak and shot again to verify it.
I tried to re-tension the barrel a few times but got the same thing each time. I think the problem may be the rear shroud tube because I was having weird accuracy issues with the stock baffles also and had to switch to Donny’s adapter which has larger holes to accommodate .25 Cal. Guessing my only option is to open up the baffles a few thou.?
I got the offset installed and it works pretty well on my .22. Not as quiet as the 1/2-20 unf adapter+sumo (I didn’t expect it to be) but at least now I don’t have to take an ldc on and off everytime I shoot and I get to keep it short.
Has anyone experimented with adding felt or some other sound absorbing material to the offset? There has to be some way to do it… I know that the sumo is quieter when felt is used around the baffles rather than just an empty can.
Yeah the oem baffles weren’t even on that tight (maybe 3/4 turn past hand tight) to begin with so it came apart easily. I used even less torque when I reassembled it with Donny’s adapter.
You detention once already right, with donny’s LDC/EDgun adapter ?
If so, you might not need to take the entire acton apart again.

Thanks for the reply Greg, I was going to try some Moly on the baffle nut where it contacts the ldc body. I’m not too worried, I sweat these things until it comes time to do it and it always turns out to be easy. I just like asking first. I know that sound is subjective, anyhow I guess I’ll find out for myself when my offset arrives in a couple days. I really hate to de-tension my barrel (I’d rather have to go into the air tube), it’s perfect right now! :angrymob:

By adding a steel washer between the nut and the LDC frame it will reduce the torque and keep the LDC from spinning once positioned.
My factory LDC was on extremely tight and it doesn’t need to be that tight, hand tight + half a turn is enough.
Once installation is complete detention/reset the scope rail will help make things settle in better.

Darn hard to compare different guns / moderator / nonidentical tunings.
My Cricket 22 std and Matador 22 std tuned to the same FPE my Matador is quieter even without the offset upgrade.
When I added the offset to my Matador 22 std it did make a noticable differences in sound reduction, especially when tuned down to 880 fps.
Comparing the Mat std with the short will depend on the tune also.
The air efficiency/bar per shot will differ with the same fpe setting with both.
In that case I’d suspect that the short will be a bit louder than the std with the same tune but being more air efficient.

Wondering how you guys like the offset on your .22 matadors? Have been reading conflicting reports on how well it actually works. Is the .22 R3M w/offset comparable to a stock Taipan mutant (extremely backyard friendly IMO)?
