Q:

Internal parts, old Talon SS vs. new

How are you guys doing… I’ve got an older (circa 2001) Talon SS. I’ve recently done the hammer slap mod and bought an updated, heavier hammer.

I’ve been reluctant to install the new hammer b/c it’s around 4-5 times heavier than the simple plastic piece mine came with. It also has some resistance and “clunkiness” when cocking it, as compared to the smooth action of the old hammer.

For those who are familiar with the differences between the older and newer TSS, should I be alright swapping hammers? Or has the design of the frame and cocking mechanism changed over the years?

Thanks

Talon/Talon SS

interesting. I had an old model with the plastic hammer and replace it with a new hammer and it worked even better… had no issue with engagement

Right you are Riff, I have a older model SS, and upon getting a heavier custom brass hammer for it, I soon realised the SS refused to cock with the new hammer, which has identicle derin sleaves on both sides of brass tubing. I found this pic of the stock hammer I still use, they were plastic back then as you can see here, with a 45 degree angled edge to it. It seems the old sear needs the angled edge to cock. If I accidently put it in backwards, it won’t cock.

I am not sure about this, but with my older SS frame I got from Ross I had to put a 45° bevel on the striking end of the hammer so the gun would stay cocked.

It appears the sear is placed slightly further ahead than on my Condor frame. The condor can use the flat end of the hammer just fine. Put the same hammer in the SS frame and it will not engage the sear. The SS and Condor have identical brand new trigger parts in case your wondering.

The SS trigger turned out much smoother, so something is different but I couldnt really figure it out.

where did you get this heaver hammer, and do you have any pics of the two as well as the slap mod?
