Intro..New .25 cricket onwer
As said in the subject, recieved my new cricket last week. Very impressed so far with the gun but i havnt had a chance to really test her out due to the snow and sub arctic temps here in mass. Ive done some shooting out the back door at an existing target about 40yds away, but am not relying on the groups due to gusts of wind.
It seems the avg. is about half in. at 40yds, which is good in my book. As far as pellets, ive tried all the .25 pellets i had and they all seem to shine at that distance.
From the groups i shot, the benji domes seem to outshine the jsb’s by a lil bit. Again, this could be due to added weight of the pellet and the wind not having as much an effect on them. Overall, im very pleased with gun and especially shot count. Not sure where the reg. is set to but i fill to 220 and after 4 full mags the pressure reads 140ish!!
So now my question to the seasoned cricket owners. I understand ernest is the guy to go to for a tune, but im strapped for cash right now. Id like to hear what differences people noticed pre and post tune if possible.. Also, i did not clean barrel before shooting her and im thinking that when i have it off, i might as well polish the barrel. Im nervous about fiddling with it so if anyone has experience with this id love to hear how you did it. Ive already done the search here and at gta but it seems everyone has different views on what to use and how to go about it. Ive heard about diamond paste for polishing but again, i have no experience with it. Im by no means a gunsmith but i do love to tinker so if anyone has tips id greatly appreciate it.. Or should i just leave her be lol

Please allow me to use your post to clear up a problem i have with my .25 that you might face one day.
The gun was set at 910fps . I kept un used for a 3 months , then when i shot it again it was acting strange.
Now the first shot always low (880fps) the rest of the 1st mag varies between 897-908 fps. 2nd and 3rd mag would settle at around 908-912fps. Then creeps up with the 4th 5th mag from 917 to 945fps as it gets out of the reg.
I then changed both orings #11 and #15 . assembled the reg to oal 53.90mm.
But still the same strange fps persist.
Could there be other factors that cause this issue?

Seems like your regulator is not regulating and maybe set to high and your OAL 53.9mm seems to be a bit much.
How much turns on the value spring retainer ?
How did you set the regulator and to what bar pressure ?
Also don’t use Molykote 55 inside the reg, use Super Lube Silicone Grease.
Thanks GKU, you were right. The reg was set too high. I turned it in 1/4 turn and it worked perfectly . The great thing is that fps starts going down at about 105bars.

There’ll be many good days ahead to throw lead down range. Many members here on TAG have sent Ernest on several vacations, including me. And it’s been a great bullpup to shoot. Easy to carry, and easy to swing out the truck window for woodchucks and other small game.
Thanx for the welcome. Im glad i found this forum. Seems to be a lot more info on the cricket than anywhere else and a big plus that ernest himself frequents this site.
Well i made it out to shoot for a while today but couldnt find the sac to walk through the snow to set up a new target. The existing one now looks like Its been blasted with buckshot for an hour. I had givin her a thorough cleaning yesterday so after putting a clip through it i was eager to see how she groups at longer range.
I took a shot at a tree at 70 yds into the woods to have an aim point.( i never do this but i couldnt control myself) then took five shots and was pretty phsyched. From the scope, i could see they grouped somewhere between .5 and .75. It had just started snowing so there was gusts of winds and they seemed like they were picking up. So rather than keep going, i cut it short and ended on that good note rather than shoot into wind and then start complaining about accuracy 😀

That’s a good idea, it could also be the weather being to cold maybe causing some of the reading your getting.
Wait up a bit when it’s warmer to test and or to do your adjustments.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I guess im gonna restrain myself from tinkering with it for now. This is very hard for me as i love to know how things work and try to improve them. Gonna trudge through the snow tomorrow and set up some targets to see what she can hold for groups.

Thanks Guys.. I will lower on the reg and see. What is the suitable oal of the reg, since i don’t have a reg tester. Waiting for your kind advice while playing with my new toy.

My gun is stock. I would try Hornaday One Shot Case Lube. It works the best for me. Have fun getting used to it.
Your gun has behavior like gun without regulator or as Greg said regulator is set to high. When you changed o-rings did you open regulator from bottom or open also upper black bolt?

There also been some few cases where the regulator is defective and or worn.

Ya, I’d wait up a bit maybe at least 1000 shot or more. Keep the barrel clean being a 25 cal it may need to be cleaned more often, 250 shots or when accuracy fails off.
It should improve as everything breaks/settle in.
Just enjoy shooing her for now, in the mean time read up, there TONS of good info here on TAG.
Then tune if you need to, if so you should be ready to take it on by yourself.
Good post on barrel polishing. But I never did this yet to my 2 Cricket not sure if I will be. Not saying it’s bad, it’s just that mines seem to be very accurate as it is.

Your post back with good news is thanks enough Adham !
Falling off at 105 bar, it sound like your reg is set to about 110 bar which is a good setting !
It’s a good idea to have measured the valve stem spring retainer when you where in there, if you haven’t already.
The factory setting is somewhere between 1-1.5 turns CW after contact.
On your next time you go in you can fine tune your velocity buy adjusting this if you find the HST too far in or out.
If you what to lower your speed a little CW, to increase CCW.
But I wouldn’t go higher then 2, from .5 – 1.5 turn CW after contact is ideal even somewhere in between that.
All in all, for now I would enjoy your shooting and read up here on TAG in preparation for any future tunings.
