Q:

IR illuminator

I currently have a Sightmark illuminator on my homemade NV setup, and it pretty much sucks. The bulb cuts in and out, the focus does nothing, and it is difficult to see much beyond about 15-20 yards. So I am considering changing out the Sightmark for one of the following:
Armasight Illuminator: https://www.armasight.com/illumination/illuminators-markers-beacons/armasight-ir810w-infrared-illuminator/
Pulsar Illuminator: http://www.pulsarvision.com/infrared-illuminators/13-pulsar-805-ir-flashlight-79071.html
The Armasight seems like it may be more powerful with more features, but the Pulsar has a good reputation as a solid unit. It won’t be needed beyond 50 yards, and a vast majority of the use will be at 25 yards or less. Does anyone have any experience with these that they would be willing to share?
Thanks,
Chris

I have a Nebo Redlight. It was $39 at Academy in Texas.

It’s great out to about 60yards.

When it is working properly, it does illuminate out to 40 yards at 7x magnification. However, if I up the magnification, it gets darker and the practical distance decreases. I would love to have the same illumination at 10x and 50 yards as I am getting now at 7x and 15 yards.
Thanks,
Chris

So, you have the KPC_190 and the $60 Sightmark
Thats a good little camera..I would think even with a crap light you should be able to get to 50-60 yards..easy.
You did take off the IR filter lens…right?

I was gonna offer to have you send it to me for repair, but its a AA battery setup..and all my lights are 18650 battery.
In other words, none of my parts would fit it..including the LED..bulb

Sorry, I cant help with the choice between Airsight and Pulsar.

If the Sightmard is faulty, perhaps sending it in for repair would save you some monies

Before you run out and spend $100+ on a fancy light.
Drop me a PM, I can make you a nice light at a far cheaper price..

Loki, what camera do you have?

The sightmark is suppost to be an OK unit.

I have the same one as you – you helped me build mine. As I mentioned, out to 15 yards it is okay – I pick up eyeshine okay, and I can tell I am looking at a rat. But I would like a clearer picture, as well as an illuminator that doesn’t just decide not to work on occasion. I would just like something that will give me a good, clear picture and allow me to be able to pic up my target even if it isn’t looking right at me.
