Q:

Is dry firing ok?

Not that I have a reason to do it a lot but I’d like to know if dry firing will damage a gen 4 Vulcan

I’m only interested in full power regulated sound so no worries. Pellet/no pellet, it’s all relative. Thanks guys!

without pellet, you can but it sounds louder than with pellet in my experience. will waste also more air than with a pellet

without air in the cylinder, dont do it, i have a spare valve and pin have you too?
usually when you mess this up air leaks out of the barrel. the vulcan has quite weak valve return spring and there is a very strong hammer spring on the othere side so without air in it is not really balanced.

i dry fired once with low hammer spring tension all the way to empty and still had to resurface the black pin, but it was old so not sure if that caused it or not.

the hammer probably hits the action with its larger diameter section, so there is a stop to it. i just realized why people dont make longer pinned custom hammers, to allow for longer dwell times. I remember Ernest was machining, permanently modifing actions by drilling deeper to allow more hammer, could not have this be achieved by longer front hammer pin? on facebook there was a guy showing a titanium hammer, probably you need the oposite, a heavy one and a longer front pin.

I don’t own a gen 4 Vulcan ………

But within most PCP it’s okay to do numerous amount times.
On some PCP not all, it’s not good to dry fire it down to nearly empty to prevent the value from locking open.
Without the added air pressure behind the valve the hammer may impact and indent/ruin the valve housing, most are made of soft brass.

…… hey, no reply back yet ?
Was this a trick question or what ….. if so.
It depends on which gun you’re trying to shoot off.

Haha no, not a trick question. Just playing around with moderators in the garage.

Pretty sure there’s no dual meaning to moderator. Guess I’ll find out…

It’s OK as long as you keep your finger off the trigger…………………
