Is it worthwhile to sort pellets?
I have been thinking about sorting pellets by head diameter to experiment with the various sizes in my R3M. Do any of you think this is a worthwhile venture? I know that sorting for the single shot Edgun would allow for greater accuracy, but would the multi-shot’s magazine just resize all of the sorted pellets?

Out of all the methods I’ve tried the Harry’s roll test is the best/quickest/consistent/easiest way to sort pellets in my book.
Great if your into FT, bench rest competition and must for all Airgun enthusiast to try at least once.

the only way to go for your tightest shooting. quick and easy , sorts to pellet size, and weeds out any deformed pellets.
really you will not see a big difference if your gun will not shoot 1/4” to 3/8” at 50 yards
i do this for when i am going for the tightest groups.i don’t weight them , or wash them
i believe the roll gets you were you need to be, real quick ,
otherwise just sling em.
it makes a considerable difference in my condor,
if you just pull them from the tin, you can shoot just as tight a group as with the sorted pellets, but only when you happened to pick up 5 of the pellets that group the to the same position,
i have found that jsb seem to roll to three positions, with some that stray out of these 3 positions ,
crosman premier hp on the other hand roll to 5 positions, with some straying from the 5

It depends on what you are looking to do.
Maximum accuracy for competition to squeeze out every possible point.
Maximum velocity and pellet stability for accuracy to hunt with 22 cal.
Then yes, sort
I sorted close to 10 thousand pellets by head size and then weight.
Lots of hours spent doing it. Lots of interesting results testing each version at various speeds to see each ones limits.
In the end I found that if I set my R3 22 at 885 fps I could shoot any head size out to 100 yds with consistent MOA accuracy without the effort of sorting. But being I had already sorted and tested and found the 5.50 as most consistently accurate at all speeds I kept a couple thousand out which were further sorted into a few weight variances just for benchrest matches.
I’ve shot close to 150k pellets through my 22. I can’t see sorting all those pellets anymore just to get a percentage of them for optimum accuracy at a slightly higher FPS.
