Q:

Is the EDgun possible to hand-pump from empty

😎 Two weeks of warm, humid weather lies in front of me. My EDgun is shooting wonderfully well. Is accurate. It is perfect. It spins 25 grain Exacts out of the muzzle at 928 fps. But I am a chronic tinkerer. I doubt that I have ever owned an airgun that I didn’t strip and polish mating surfaces and relube. I have been in Cricket regulators and polished the Belleville washer stack. And I had Ernest youtube vids to help me. I have Ed’s vid on how to strip the EDgun Matador. I have one question: When I get the rifle re-assembled, all polished up and lubed (sparingly)……will I be able to use a hand-pump (Hill Mark 3) and fill it from empty? Has anyone actually done this? Heaven knows that I can use a good workout. But does the valve seat tight enough that my first few pumps will……matter?
Please, I know that it is tempting to tell me to leave a good shooting rifle alone. But the rifle was built on Jan or 2014 and I am concerned about regulator lubes getting thick. I will use moly on the reg or on any piece that is “steel on steel”. I would venture a guess that over half of the members here have torn their EDguns down.
I have TOO MUCH time on my hands. I am my mother’s Primary caregiver as she is bedridden with Alzheimer’;s Disease. I turn her in her bed every two to three hours. Other than that, I’ve got my yardwork done. So now, I wanna do some technical stuff. I’m a fair hand with tools. And I am always willing to ask for help. I just want to be able to pump it back up when I’m done. Thanks. 😎

Hi Kevin ! I myself hate all the interaction with these “Humans” on this very board. They´re not helpful but a sarcastic group of outcasts who need a place to gather. Good to know you´re satisfied with the TAG though since it rules the Internet roost.
Just disregard Zonkie, Oakeyboy and Hooter and it´s all good. Those guys defy the laws of physics – and all the laws of civilization too.

Guys, I appreciate your prompt replies!!! And you readiness to be helpful. There isn’t alot of that ‘going around’ these days. I TRULY appreciate it. Answering my question might not seem like such a big deal to many………but I am grateful for ANY human interaction at all. Ya know, it’s funny how everyone, including my siblings, have made themselves scarce after hearing our mother’s diagnosis. These airgun forums (and a couple of metal detecting forums) have kept me ‘in touch’ with other human beings. I used to brag to people that “I am a loner!”. But I ain’t. I’m no different than anyone else. I like interacting with people. More now, than ever. So I tend to overdo it when posting. Okay…..I’m through with my ‘kum ba yah’ moment. Carry on. (and…thanks) Kevin

…and to save some needless sweat, don’t forget to cock the hammer back before you start pumping ! The hammer will keep the valve open otherwise 😉

We’ve all done it 🙄

Be careful of moisture. This time of year it is likely to be an issue. It will be hard for a moisture filter to keep up when filling from empty. I have posted in the past on how to use a copper coil and a freezer to strip out moisture on a high volume fill. You might want to consider that as an option.

Yes you can, you just have to pump really quickly at first. I have pumped mine up from empty with a Hill mark 3 pump a couple of times.
