Q:

IZH-46M Mac1 Style

I have just ordered an IZH-46M Mac1 Style gun from the Mac1 airgun store. I have also ordered a Merit 3LS peep sight and mounting kit. I plan on updating this thread as a short diary of my experiences for anyone who’s thinking about getting this pistol.

The reason for ordering the Mac1 can be summed up best by Tim’s own webpage: http://www.mac1airgunstore.com/mac1_airgun/Izzy_46m.html

quote :

1. In a Percentage of factory Izzys, the Valve Chamber is corroded and the guns will not seal. If the corrosion is not there initially, Without proper lubrication it can happen anytime. And the leaker will want our upgrade (Compressing Air will always leave moisture in the mild steel chamber).

Mac1 replaces this chamber with Non-Magnetic and Non-Corroding Stainless Steel. (Tiny metal debris can collect in the factory airguns with regular steel chambers)

Better Power: Our chamber volume is slightly less, so each charge has slightly elevated pressure to give slightly better power.

2. We strip out the Russian Seals, and replace them with 90 durometer American seals that are harder and more durable. We have been doing this for 5 years since the first Izzy 46’s appeared. The Result: No Failures have occurred on any IZZY 46 Airgun Mac1 has upgraded. NADA

We do other good things too…..but let us keep some of our Trade Craft a Secret.

What you get is the most “Bullet Proof” 46m Pistol available. Period. We are always building into the Mac1 IZZY the ultimate accuracy, consistency and durability.

Have never had any Parallax problems using the Match-Dot. But then I’ve not really checked but I will this weekend when I do my practice.

But right now I am also looking at getting one of the L-3 EOTech OPMOD EXPS2 Holographic Sights for my personal Christmas gift this year. It would replace my Match-Dot, maybe. However, my wife doesn’t know that just yet. LoL

Do you find the ultra-dot has parallax problems at 10m? I see it’s configured for 50 yards?

Hey S,
I was watching Tim work his magic on your gun ,it’s amazing watching him do the work ,he is a total stickler for detail and he can do it with his eyes closed .He just plain makes the thing work right .

Yes they have two different sights. One has an UltraDot MatchDot sight that I use for 10 meter shooting and the other one has the Merit 3LS peep sight and the Marten’s Sight Company taco front sight for shooting silhouette.

Why two 46Ms? Do you have them with different sight systems?

I was shooting it at 9m (my max indoor range) and put two pellets in the same hole. I thought I had missed until I dug both pellets out of the duct seal. I was speechless. That’s rifle performance from a pistol 🙂 I am using peep and post sighting which changes things a little but nonetheless.

What a great gun from Russia – plus Mac1 stainless steel and better o-rings…. and the trigger is insanely good.

Very nicely executed. I’ve had my two IZH-46Ms for several years now and still enjoy shooting them. They are two of my most favorite 10m pistols.

Okay, here’s the finished product. I’ve treated the wood with teak oil (I had it laying around) and shaved off a fair bit of the trigger contour as I find I’m more accurate pulling the tip of the trigger… the original wood got in the way of that action. You can see plenty of work adjusting the contour to fit my grip.

The bottom of the grip has a Phillips Pellet holder, cut to size, and mounted with a couple of black screws and synthetic washers.

Initially I didn’t like the idea of having to woodwork the grip – but now it fits like a glove and looks the part. Very happy 🙂

I have just received and installed the Merit 3LS peep sight and Marten’s Sight Company Front Sight and Peep Mount (click here)

The peep and post setup is laser accurate. I’m able to shoot tight 5 shot groups at 10m free standing. I’ve got scope level performance without all the parallax issues and weight. I cannot recommend Marten’s work enough.

the other option is to purchase an uninletted blank from Richards microfit and cut it off just in front of the pistol grip
I am probably going that route with a FEG GPM I will be converting to HPA and fitting with an 18″ Lothar Walther barrel down the road
heres a stock that might work

the only decent Izzy stocks I have seen were being produced by a guy on the Yellow
those replaced the rear sight and were side folders

had one on my old Izh, real sweet bit of work
don’t think he makes them any more

If it’s the same guy/post I came across, he only made about a dozen. The for sale post I’m thinking of was linked recently in a reply to someone looking for one. I’ve emailed him, no response. I don’t have the tools to do that right (thus my failed attempt in wood).

Lets see… A bent rod, a mini wok butt and a fitting to attach well in place of the rear sight…. WOK???? Anyone? up for the challenge? If you are a regular or have good BOI references, I’ll ship you an IZZY for test fitting in return for a nice discount and return postage on the IZZY.

I’m looking forward to my peep sight and some time Sunday to Dremel the grips. I’ll document more as I progress…

told you so… 😀

now… if you wander across an affordable shoulder stock let me know. I tried my hand at making one to replace the grip and could not get the grip attachment milled out well enough to even attach, then tried ‘bedding’ it with plastic weld (with plastic wrap around the metal of the gun… split the grip as it dried.
