Q:

Just need to talk

Most of you will not recognize my handle, it’s been a long time since I’ve frequented Talon Airgun’s forum. Those of you with sons will understand.

Perhaps this is not the place to post things like what I’m about to tell you, but because I don’t know any of you personally, it makes it a little easier to talk about.

I lost my son, Nick, to Colon Cancer September 26th. He died a week before his 30th birthday. He fought bravely through 5 years. Nine major surgeries, colostomy, ilieostomy, fistulas, …..whatever could make his life more miserable….he had to deal with. And he did all without a single complaint. Chemo, as well as the surgeries, did their best to challenge his faith, self esteem, physical appearance, and mental health. But he gave no ground. He was truly the most courageous, optimistic, and kind man I have ever known. He had a smile for everyone, no matter how badly he felt. I am so grateful to have had him as my son. And the loss I feel has no words. Sometimes I wonder if my tears will ever stop. The hole in my heart is dark, with no borders, and no bottom.

I pray none of you will ever experience so great a loss. Thanks for listening to an old man cry. God bless.

Shaky there are things that happen in this live that does not make it easy for somehing like this, If we were not so far apart I would stop and talk to you and be your freind whenever you needed me, all I can say is my heart goes out to you and the love you will always have for your son. Just keep him in your heart as I know you will, and he still loves you he is just like Pab said in a different place now for what reason none of us will ever know!

Hi Shaky, I remember you and I am pleased that you chose this place to talk about the trajedy that has darkened your life. I have four kids that I worry about every day. There is something that a little old german woman once told me that makes it easier for me to be a parent. She said that children do not belong to us. They belong to God. God merely entrusts them to us for a while. I do not expect these words to ease your great sorrow. That’s what makes it easier for me.

It is true that parents should not have to burry their children. It’s just not natural. I am so very sorry for your loss and I hope that you can get through the initial loss as best as possible. I don’t know that it will ever get better for you, but I hope it does.

I had read an interview with Fred Gwyn’s daughter after he had passed away from cancer. (Fred Gwyn played Herman Munster in the Munster’s). He had told her that life goes by in the blink of an eye. His last words to her were that he would see her in a blink of an eye. Life does pass quickly and Nick’s, entirely too quickly. Again, thank you for trusting us at such a dark time in your life.

God bless you Nick, rest in peace.

Very Respectfully, Steve in L.A.

My thoughts are with you and your family. I’ve no words of wisdom to offer as I have never experienced anything close to the loss of a child.

Just know that there are those of us out there thinking of you.

Jesus, Shakey, I dunno what to say. I have two daughters and the thought of one of them going would be too much to bare.
My heart truely goes out to you mate.

The pain must be terrible.

He hasn’t gone, he’s somewhere we can’t see. He is still there. You will see each other again.
Be at peace.

Shaky,

I have not lost a child, I worried thru many nights while my son was deployed in Iraq and wondered to myself in the wee hours of the night, how I could live thru such a thing.

My heart goes out to you in this time of sorrow, even tho I do not know you, no one should have to bury their children.

I hope it gets easier for you as time goes by, it sounds like your child was a fine person and a great son.
