Q:

Just received my .30 Bobcat

I just bought a new Bobcat in .30 cal from RL, mounted a Hawke scope on it, and went shooting. I’ve owned a .25 Cricket for about 18 months now, so that’s my only bullpup comparison.

First, the gun is lighter than my Cricket. As for appearance, I like the way they both look. The first thing I noticed is that the cocking lever is not as greasy smooth as I read – my cricket is smoother to cock, but the FX loads the pellets smoother. And as for the trigger, I have my cricket down to just a couple of ounces of pull on the second stage. The FX feels unrefined out of the box and I can actually hear the spring tension, so I will be searching the internet for ways to adjust the second stage pull.

Once I sighted the gun with the scope, the consistency in groups is amazing to me. At 40 yards, half inch groups were the norm using a sandbag to support the rifle. Securing the rifle a bit more with a couple of nicely placed bags produced single hole, 3 shot groups.

Excited, I then moved to 93 yards (that’s the max distance of my range shooting out of my garage) and I was getting 1 inch groups with a steady hand and more like 1 1/4-ish for a couple of magazines. What was impressive again, was the consistency.

The chrony showed 890 fps average with a 5 fps spread.

Also, I noticed I used slightly less holdover (mil-dot) with the .30 versus the .25. At 93 yards, it was 3 mil-dot for the .30 and 3.3 mil-dot for the .25. Didn’t expect that and Chairgun does not agree at all. I am shooting JSB 44 gr.

I then installed my favorite scope, the Bushnell FFP tactical, and started plinking pine cones at 65 and 85-ish yards.

If I can get the FX trigger right, I am afraid the Cricket is going to be up for sale shortly – maybe.

I believe the Bobcat is FXs best gun. Even though saying it is superior compared to the wildcat got me thrown off AGN I still hold the opinion that I would rather own the Bobcat. It’s a well built gun based on the Royale action

+ 1 ! The WC is a far cry from the BC (Fred is keen for the letter “C”, it seems) and although the BC is one Fugly gun it´s vastly superior to that WC. Many “C”´s but you get the picture … :geekn:

Sweet pilot, it sounds like you found another great gun. My .22 Bobcat shot good but wasn’t regulated, wish it was I would have kept it. Check the fill gauge my buddy’s .25 Bobcat was leaking there, easy fix. I could never get my trigger as good as my Cricket or Vulcan, even though it was set at 14 oz, it wasn’t what I’m used to. Here’s my 75 yard target with my .22….

By the way, I have an Atlas for sale if interested………………no NOT a knock off but a real Atlas.

I spent most of Saturday looking for the slow leak and finally found it was a pinched o-ring on the banjo bolt holding the chamber pressure gauge in place. The fill location is at the end of the air tube, near the manometer – twist the collar and it exposes the fill port. I filled the tube and put it underwater to look for bubbles. Anyway, it’s been 36 hours and it’s holding the charge. For this kind of money, I would have expected someone, somewhere would have checked for this common problem.

As for the trigger, if this is match grade, then I am not impressed. I spent two hours trying to adjust the the first and second stage pull. I cut one of my allen keys to work without touching the chamber pressure gauge. I feel like I need to disassemble the forward trigger assembly and polish, then dry lube the parts to get to what I have with the Cricket. It is now, at least, predictable but still unrefined – there is nothing crisp about it.

Other than the trigger, the gun is super consistent with the JSBs on target and now that I have the Atlas bipod attached, it is a joy to put pellets downrange. At 93 yards, the pellets are going right through true 1 inch fence boards, and disappearing into 4×4 treated posts.

Is it a custom shroud or a stock one?

I assume stock since it came with the gun.

Congratulations on a really nice 30 cal. If I was getting in FX it would be the Impact or Bobcat.

Here you go. No bipod yet and the magazine is empty. It seems to have lost a bit of charge overnight. These pics are with the Bushnell mounted.

EDIT: I forgot to mention it is very quiet. In fact, quieter than the Cricket until the 44 gr pellet hits the target with an amazing “thwack”.

I took this shot to show the finish on the air tube. It’s beautiful up close and in person.

yes some HOT pictures!! lol

Congtats on 30cal bobcat I also have one but it seems that I never get to shot it (not because I don’t want too). So yes pictures I will live through you! :biggrinn:

Congrats on the new gun…not to sound greedy but how about a little gun porn for us? We are a simple bunch…we love photos… :8:
