Keeping bullseye
I’ve owned a lot of firearms, nearly all purposely built for accuracy and I hand-loaded the rounds myself. That’s my lame attempt to quickly explain I know how to hit a target, day after day, in different calibers and understand centerfire rounds (I understand this part doesn’t apply here).
Anyway, is it common for a PCP to need to be fine tuned day after day in order to nail the bullseye? Rarely have I shot my Cricket, from one day to the next, and hit the same point. OK, it’s only off by a fraction, but it still moved. Once it’s zero’d, it stays there. Is it because we are dealing with compressed air vs powder?
On the other hand, this thing smokes my .22 Ruger at 50 yards.

Oh Pilot does it shoot like this at 50???? Same here Salt, it just amazes me how accurate this gun is…..where was it 50 years ago when I was a kid???
It shoots better than my custom AMT 10-22. But I had a Ernest custom tune………THANKS ERNEST!!!
I too used to be into powder burners both long guns and handguns and accuracy shooting with hand loads, chronograph work, etc.
Recently I got my first PCP air gun and quickly discovered how addicting these things are. I have a .22 and a .25 cricket and I have not experienced what you are experiencing. My .25 is Earnest tuned, but my .22 is not. I intend to to any tuning it may need myself. I’m not much of a bench shooter these days. My favorite thing to do is drive around on my property and take out sparrows and turtles. Once I shot several groups from these guns and got them hitting right where I wanted, I really haven’t touched them once I got them set up. My .22 that I bought intentionally to learn how to tune shot so well right out of the box, other than adjusting the trigger a little, I really haven’t done anything to it but shoot it. I routinely take head shots on sparrows with it at 50 yards.
Periodically I have cleaned the barrels, then shot paper targets and still get ragged one hole groups at 40-50 yards. My coolest thing I’ve done was to shoot a big white sheet of cardboard with my .25 at 30 yards, then shot at the hole the .25 made with my .22. It was shot 4 before the .25 hole got any larger! I was flabbergasted with the accuracy and still am amazed. :2cents:
Is it still stock?
if it is, get it tuned by ernest and then ask him your range of shooting. Ernest knows what he is doing and your gun will be shooting better then most powder burners. The cricket is an amazing gun when it is tuned correctly and dont expect it to start being consistant until around 1000 rounds. Also check the end cap of the shroud for grey streaking your gun could be clipping the shroud. Try shooting with and with out the shroud on if your PO I changes then you might be clipping. Also with an untuned gun I would not shoot any lower then 130 to 120 bar, any lower and you poi is going to be dropping rapidly.
