Kodiaks & Baracudas
Perhaps this is a silly question but I’m a bit confused and maybe someone here can clarify this for me before I place my order.
Almost EVERY thread I read about .25 Extra Heavy Kodiak Match pellets say they are the same as .25 H&N Baracuda pellets,the only difference is the name.
If they are the same,could someone explain to me why H&N Baracudas cost $2.00-$3.00 more than the Extra Heavy Kodiak Match pellets from the same site?
Besides the price,is there ANY difference at all?

baracuda = kodiak
baracuda match = kodiak match (same pellet as non match, except that they have a better quality control and suposedly more uniform and clean)
i have some tins of baracuda .22…..i have tins of kodiak .22….i have just looked at them….no difference….i just weighed 10 of each….the same
what it boils down it is simple witch one is available at the best price, match or non match i dont care, i havent found a difference in .22, maybe in .177….
in .22 may i suggest contacting topgun airgun, and buy a whole case of 18 grain JSB….its expensive, but you will have pellets for several years to come

same goes with a bunch of JSB, which have been seen labeled, FX, AirArms, PAG, NVF, and a ton of other brands…..still jsb

Well I contacted AOA who did have both Bara. and Kod. in stock and ordered 3 sleves of Kod. and 2 sleves of Bara. just to see if there was a difference.
I asked the sales guy what the difference was and he agreed that they were the same pellet with VERY few people claiming a difference.
He stated that the cost was more for Bara. because,like Cygnus X said,they are imported in a lesser quantity.H&N has 3 tins per sleve and Kod. have 5 tins.
He also said that the “Match” pellets are the SAME as the regular Bara. only again, like Cygnus X said they just slap a lable on them calling them match.
Well,I guess I’ll see for myself in about a week 😀

Quantities and lables mean a lot to some folks but others have it figured out. Same pellet.
I would discount the source of differing BCs for these or other pellets known to be identical. Determining BC is an inexact proposition at best. BC varies with velocity and a number of factors. If you determine the BC out of your gun, you can derive some useful information. If you accept a posted BC, you may or may not be able to make a good drop chart or retained energy chart etc.
I saw one online chart that listed the BC of the .45 Raptors we make and it was a totally bogus value. I think it had to be shot out of a pop-gun! I’ve seen several values posted for the Kodiaks and both the same and different values for the Barracudas. They might have been developed properly for the given gun/velocity or not. There’s no telling.
The good news is that overall, the Kodiaks appear to have a relatively high BC. The other good news is that it is pretty easy to determine the BC for your gun if you have a chrony. There are plenty of online calculators that will compensate for altitude and temperature and even humidity so you can get a useful chart or scope tape for your gun/scope/shooting conditions.

Marc I am sure you are right on the 25 cal, what is wierd is 22 cal I just bought from Air guns of Arizona the H&N were cheaper than the kodiaks and I know 22 cal are the same from H&N or Beeman same pellet.
Exact same pellet. The kodiaks are probably cheaper becouse beeman can import them in bulk. Therefor lowering their cost. The H&N are probably imported in smaller quantities therefore are more expensive!

According to chairgun the H&N branded pellets have a higher BC value..
