kodiaks going crack
I’m thinking of removing the condor weight. has anyone done this, and if so how dose it perform?
I’m having a hell of a time keeping kodiaks under the speed of the crack and looking for some input for cures, Thanks

Thanks Riff, I thought that waas you. I did a search for it the other night and couldn’t find it, you wouldn’t happen to have a link to that tread by any chance would you, or remember what you titled it?
Go to ACE and get yourself some rubber washers.
Find one about .7 thick, large enough to stretch over the tophat.
I used to do this all the time and it was very consistent. Tophat was at stock setting, the shim give me an effective .30±
Getting it back off only needed a pair of tweezers.
Well that answers it once and for all.
for the fill presser, I usually fill to 2800, this time I was getting a bit crazy and hit 3000 before I realized it which is no real big deal for my gun will shoot it, just with a few soft shots, 2800 is right in the power band and it’s common for me to get one or two thatr crack, but this time every one cracked all the way down to 2100(except a few on the front side of the bell) and that was with 36 shots total, so I’m guessing 30 of them were too fast.
the good news is I’ve come up with a solution, I will shoot the 28 gainers ’till the 12 incher arrives, and I think it’s time to go .25 for the long barrel.

I forgot to put the weight back in once and was getting about 300fps I think….. but that was with a 12″ barrel. (with the weight I’d get 800)
Exactly right Spinji! You can’t go too low on the top hat. I had to go .07 to keep it from smacking the valve face. I would imagine that if you had a steady diet of hitting the valve face that with the thin wall in the valve stem, you would eventually snap the top hat right off the valve stem right along with quite a bit of that thin thread!
I never have had a valve dump, but If I go below 6 or 7 on the power wheel, the velocity if all over the place. Lots of weak shots.

Gtbj What the poster above me said is right. I use 2500 as my max fill because at 3K my gun suffers valve lock.

I’ve noticed that the problem with bringing the tophat on the Condor valve too close to the base will cause the tophat to smack hard against it when pressure drops and if the power wheel is set to high power – the effect is adverse in it that introduces unwanted vibrations/harmonics which will in turn affect accuracy.
To rectify the problem of Kodiaks going supersonic in a Condor, just simply turn the power wheel down and look for the correct bottle pressure … even if it means the gun having to start its sweet spot at 2500 PSI. For example, with my power wheel set to “0” I know that my sweet spot will have to be lower than 2800 PSI simply because the hammer, at that level, does not have the momentun behind it to open the valve consistently. Thus, the sweet spot will have to be set to a lower starting pressure like 2500 PSI. This allows the hammer impact to mate with the valve’s consistent operating pressure. Just remember though that you want to find a velocity setting that prevents the pellet from going supersonic.
Take the weight out and go to ACE hardware. Find a bushing the correct size or use a stack of washers behind the hammer.
Adjust to what you want.

What you can do is maybe decrease they weight by cutting it back a bit.
that’s kind of what i was afraid of, I can keep them subsonic with the preload turned all the way down, but it’s as inconsistent as a fat drunk fisherman’s stories at the camp fire, cutting it down wont work for me either, I have a 12 incher coming so I’ll be needing that there weight intact for the little guy.
Without the weight you might not be able to open the valve enough.
What you can do is maybe decrease they weight by cutting it back a bit.
