Kodiaks
I have been noticing that have a very tight and fast wobble that I can see in flight through my scope. The JSB’s don’t seem to have this. I was hopeing that I could use the KD’s when it is windier here, but they aren’t giving the fine accuracy of the JSB’s. Not to mention the JSB’s are much cheaper these days.
On a side note I have three boxes of .22 Crossman Primer’s in the box. Too light for my gun! Just too much velocity for them. I get leading problems with them too quickly. I don’t’ want to turn down the top hat just for these pellets!

Sorry I missed your reply Riff! With the Zeiss optics, you can see the pellet in just about any decent light. When the sun is to your back, they very visible. I never Saw them like this with the bushy Scope!
I shot a Tree Rat today at a little of 55 yards. All I could see was his head sticking up in the fork of a tree across the drive, in the neighbors yard. The yard was well shaded, yet I could see the pellet slightly arc into the target, and the spray from the top of his head on impact! 😀 I love it!!!
I was down to 1400 lbs air, so I had to hold over just a touch. So I could really see the apx, 2″ arch very well. Looked like a miniature Tank round going down range! 😈
What I’m seeing is a wobble of the skirt, Sorta like a toy top looks as it slows down.

Knifemaker, you can actually see the wobble? Or are you just thinking they wobble?
I have a hard time seeing the pellet fly at all at anywhere above 700fps.

sounds like the JSB is the best choice for your purpose in your gun. I have found when a lot of energy is not required, that the JSBs are also slightly more accurate in my gun.
Thanks Shrp! An inch at 40 yards I would consider a huge poi. I’m mostly hunting field mice at the edge of the pasture. The range is typically 60-80 yards. I try and get head shots, but will take body shots at the longer ranges. A 1 inch poi shift at 40 would be 2″ at 80yards. The mice heads are 3/4″ at best. The JSB’s took one out at a lasered 76 yards this morning and flipped the little booger! I can’t get the Kodiaks to group this well.
My velocity for the Kodiaks is currently 1055 down to 945. But I see the same problem at 900-1000 as well. The Jsb’s are flying true. Even up at 1125 where I start the string at. Then down to 990. They seem to shoot well over a wide range of velocity.

What you are seeing I have had happen with low velocity centerfire cast bullets, something like a corkscrew motion but confined to a small area. This meant that while very consistent (good groups), poi would shift a small amount based on yardage. I either missed or you didn’t mention what velocity you are shooting the Kodiacs at; but i can tell when I am low on air when my poi starts changing randomly as much as an inch at 40 yds (not much, just enough to miss a small target). I find best accuracy is 900fps plus (range of 875 to 1050 in .25 cal) lower than 900 and they are possibly are destabilizing.?
Thanks every one, but the problem I am asking about is wobble in the Kodiak’s, rather than leading in the CP’s.
Knifemaker, How do you know you have a leading problem? I can see it with a bore scope!
Yes I know about the lube’s, but the cp’s are way too fast in my gun. Not accurate. I would have to re tune with cp’s to be able to shoot them at all. Not worth
the time and trouble as JSB’s group very well out of my gun. 3/8″ or less at 60 yards is possible when I and the wind do our part. It has gone 1/4″ at this range.
Crossmans open this up by another 1/2 inch or more.
I notice that they don’t fit my barrel tightly like the Kodiaks, and JSB’s do. This could be part of the problem.
So does anyone have any comments on the wobble in the Kodiaks? Even with the wobble, they shoot a little better than the CP’s for me. But do exhibit a random flier. Thought of clipping, but no issues with JSB’s.

Yes, lubing the pellets can really help from lead/dirt build up in the barrel. Here’s the Krytec lube I use that was already mentioned. This was also recomended by Mac 1 Tim.
I shoot Crosman hunting pellets, and after lubing them, and carefully wiping them down in between a old folded T-shirt, I saw how dirty some pellets brands really are.. I mean filthy! Huge black smudge on shirt after wiping them down. Using lubed pellets also make barrel cleaning much easier, way less patches needed. Other pellets like JSB’s or Kodiaks don’t seem to be as dirty. Here’s a pic of the bottle to look for.
knifemaker Try some lube with the CP’s. It will keep the leading down to nothing and Krytech chain wax by finish line is a great lube and it will add some weight to the CP’s, but not much. I was leading in my Condor just after 100+ shots with EJ and Kodiak’s and after the wax it’s not leading up as fast. I can put 500+ shots through before a cleaning is needed to keep the accuracy at a high level.
How do you know when you have “leading” problems in your barrel?

Perhaps it’s not a wobble at all, it’s just not perfectly uniform in the skirt, giving the appearance of a wobble????
