Q:

latest Edgun R3M 22 cal

Tony got in a new shipment of R3M 22 cals , I received mine this week, 2 bolt stock mount, 4 slot mag storage, In the scope rail ,This was the first things I noticed, I took the breach off to check the barrel and this gun was supper clean, the second patch came out spotless , It shone like a mirror inside, the mag indexing was tight but smooth, Nice wood grain . I did a crony check, but I didn’t do a full string, dead batteries, I came up with 900 fps, factory set so I left it there. With the trigger I need to play with it and set it where I like it. To windy to shoot outside but a few clips inside at close to 40 yards, but didn’t get to really give it a test, just set my scope. Over all I like it a lot. :fishinghole:

Thanks, guys. I very much want to avoid tinkering with the regulator and especially so given that everything was working pretty good right out of the box and the only hiccup has been the hammer spring coming unscrewed.

I screwed it in to about the middle of the threads and today it shot 40 or so at 900 fps with a spread of 13 fps. I actually shot a dozen more on the same charge the night before but they didn’t register on the chrono because it was getting dark. I’m down to about 135 bars. This is pretty close to the string I posted here earlier.

I plan to just keep shooting the gun and breaking it in. The Loc-Tite is a great suggestion once I get through the break-in. I’ll measure the distance from the end of the screw and count the darn threads until I can apply the Loc-Tite.

Anyone ever try a small lock screw behind the HST? Searching, I couldn’t find any other reference to an HST coming unscrewed.

You might want to consider a drop of Loc-Tite, the low grip kind, to help keep that screw snug. It doesn’t take much to secure the HST, but keeping that little screw in one place sometimes is a problem.

Personally, I’d set that rascal at 880 – 900 fps with the HST (that’s what it’s there for), and leave the regulator alone. Perhaps after a period of time, when you become more familiar with the mechanics of the gun, you might want to change the reg settings. But in the meanwhile, why make a simple fps adjustment complicated? Sounds to me like it’s shooting just fine.

Just my thoughts. Your mileage may vary.

I believe that there two diffrent methodologys developing or maybe strategies when it comes to hst and regulator. Most everyone will tell you that you do not want to simply reduce hst that much. You want to reduce the reg a little bit and then adjust the hst to give you the most fps you can get with that reg adjustment. That is the traditional thinking. However, when I was having issues with my r3m wingman said that it could have been caused by the lower reg adjustment because these regulators are designed to run best at 130bar. He recommended that I put it back at the stock adjustment and use the hst to reduce the fps. Most Likely, if you just drop the hst, you will see a spike In fps as you get to a lower fill pressure.

Given the 950 results, how much turn do I need to get it back to 900 fps? Can I get there by just reducing the hammer spring tension? At what point would the regulator have to be adjusted?

What is the maximum amount of adjustment in fps that can be made with just the HST? I realize every gun is different and that the bottom line is accuracy, but how much can you wring out of it with just HST?

Yes, the set screw loose. they are afraid of damage the thread when install it, I guess.
30 bar for 20 shots is about average. So 950 fps is too high and no efficient for using air.
Mine shoots good at 930 fps, As Wingman said the LW barrel for r3m designed for high velocity, but I like to have more shots per fill and lower it to 890 fps and still shooting well.
You may need to ccw the HST a little more to get back to original setting to shoot. After broken in, then tuning it.

I believe on your pst locknut came loose and your old setting went out the window.

I was shooting with my son and son-in-law when the gun wouldn’t cock. Got it back home and removed the stock for the first time and the hammer spring was lying limp. I wasn’t sure what I was looking at, but what else could it be?? Screwed it back in just now, but I must have moved the collar screw while I was struggling to ease the hammer screw back in under tension while trying to avoid crossing the threads.

Just ran 20 shots across the chrono and I’ve gained 50 fps compared with the string I posted earlier. If you look higher in this thread you will see my first shots right out of the box. Obviously, the fps has changed in every string. I’ll lower the tension later, but for now I just want to continue putting pellets down range.

Anyone else ever have this happen and what is the likelihood of it doing it again? Any chance of this damaging other parts of the rifle? By the way, the boys fell in love with the Edgun and, no, they cannot have it.

Thanks, Charlie. The first shot string is offered as a baseline for comparison purposes to anyone interested. And I am encouraged by your experience, and no doubt others are looking for feedback on the new batch of R3Ms. While there is room for improvement, I am loving this gun and absolutely impressed with the craftsmanship. She is a thing of beauty.

It just takes time to become better. maybe 1k or 2k pellets later, take another shot string to compare with this one. You will be happy. My R3M .22 is shooting much better than the new one I got.

Wasted five shots, including two pellet jams that were probably my fault. Uploaded this as a pdf. There’s a graph at the end.

Here are some of the first shots out of my new RM3 .22 caliber using JSB 18.13 grain. I accidentally deleted the first string off the chrono — that should require a double click — and had to start over well into the second magazine. As I recall, the earlier shots were no higher.

A total of 23 shots from 180-145 bar using the air in the cylinder as delivered. Three shots wasted, including the final shot. Not much of a sample but the spread seems a tad high even for right out of the box. The barrel was not cleaned — it’s right out of the box. Cleaned afterward and small amount of lead removed. Also, clouds were coming and going over a 15-minute span using a ProChrono with good batteries. The bar estimate is my calculation.

Congrats. I like r3m too. I’ve been searching around for another pcp airgun. I could not find anyone it’s better. I like it
accuracy
shot count (more than 80 shots)
short(30″)
simplicity
multi shot
backyard friendly

now end up to looking for another edgun.

On the latest shipment on the 22 cal R3Ms I forgot to add, The PST adjuster is complete different setup, The bolt has a knurled adjusting end, with a knurled locking nut you can adjust by hand, no tools needed, a nice feature.

Ordered one of these today from Tony and it should be here in a few days. Settled on the .22 standard hoping it will be quiet enough for some backyard plinking. Placed the order after noon but Tony was able to get it out the door within a couple of hours. That’s real customer service. Extra magazines won’t be available for a while.

Be carefull with the mag holders. They work great, right up to the point that they don’t. I use a single point sling, so the gun is hanging upside down, rubbing on my right hip sometimes. There is a likely hood that my missing mag poped out when I was switching from rifle to sidearm a few weeks ago. I had it before that and the first time I noticed it missing was a few min after that. They also seam to pop out when its stored in a soft case. Its a great thing and its better to have than not to have, just keep in mind that they do come out and you can’t buy replacements until the fall. I’m working on a plastic replacement but its not going to hold 9 shots and won’t work as a semi-auto.
