LDC….With or without pellet!
All, I have an LDC which is 8″x1 1/2″. It’s a standard 1/2″ unf and is made for .177, .22 and .25. I currently have it on a .22 rifle. My main question is why would an LDC be quieter when shot without a pellet than with? I was under the impression the LDC was always quieter when a pellet is actually shot through it. I have also shot it on a .25 rifle and the results were the same. This is not a problem per se. I’m just curious.
Keith.

In your case the LDC is acting as a dampener, and is absorbing/holding back some of the total air that is exiting the muzzle when you shoot it without a pellet.
With a pellet the LDC is acting as a stripper which is a bit louder and letting more air exiting the muzzle without much delay/dampening.
Is your shroud back ported, I’m assuming it’s not or not enough ?
The Edgun has an opposite effect that is, it’s louder dry fired then with a pellet.
In this case with a pellet the LDC is acting as a stripper and the pressure added by the pellet is so great that it’s pushed back into the shroud and exiting the port holes.
The rear of the shroud is ported and acting as a dampener and release some of the pressure from exiting the muzzle end to (in theory) aid in increase the accuracy as the pellet leave the muzzle under a vacuum.
