Q:

LDCs for Matador .25?

Who makes LDCs for the Matador .25?
How well do they reduce the sound?
Cost?
Thanks!
Jim

I’ve come to the conclusion after spending $1000+ on aftermarket stuff for the .25 that promise to make it mouse fart that it doesn’t exist. I’ve accepted the fact that in order to make this gun quiet I have to reduce the fps which then reduces the hammerslap.

I’ve also shot the .22 R2.5 and have to agree they are so quiet compared to the .25

I have tried a few LDCs on my R3 – .25 and found it had little affect on sound levels. My .22 is significantly quieter than my .25 with a LDC. Is there a LDC that really makes a noticeable difference?

Thanks Donny. Your comments reaffirm what I have suspected for some time. Now when I need real quiet I use my .22.

I’ve tested many different length LDCs on my .25 R3M and have to say the 6 inch and 8 inch length x 1.5 diameter does a pretty good job controlling the muzzle blast. As you already know though there are other factors that make this bullpup loud. The two main culprits in my opinion is the fps and hammerslap. Majority of us shoot 890-920 which requires the hammer to hit the valve very fast and hard. Nothing you can put in front of the gun to quiet that down followed by the ping.

The Vulcan also has a very loud hammerslap but when you do Ernest’s mod with the delrin bushing plus an LDC, one of the quiestest I’ve heard. Unfortunately for the Edgun there are no such mods.

The muzzle report from airguns is a hotly debated subject. Sound is in the eye of the beholder. Pitch, frequency sensitivity and decibels all play a part in the perceived sound. The only true way to measure sound from a gun is with a type 1 decibel meter. These types of sound meters have circuitry that is fast enough to record the peak sound. They also measure pitch. The problem is they are very expensive.

The ones on Amazon or found on smart phones are not going to give a real db reading. They are better than nothing but the truth is the type one meter is the only way to measure sound from a gun. All other meters are for constant sound and they are most often used in manufacturing applications

CF is tricky to thread not to mention finding a way to hold the tube without ruining it. That’s why I leave it for the CNC guys to do it. That way perfect threads all the time. I got the idea from FX actually. A buddy of mine had a short FX CF LDC and it had removable end caps. I was like that is cool didn’t know you can do that. So I did my research found a vendor who could do it. They also thread the aluminum caps too so its a perfect fit. My job will be to drill and tap the exit hole as well as the 1/2 x 20 threads or threads for the Vulcan adapter. Knurl and anodize. I have a new lathe coming sometime in August and should be able to work on threads easier. My current lathe is a pain to thread with the change gears.

quote ElmerFudd:

I like the clean look of threaded end caps. I don’t think you can thread CF since it’s so brittle. You have a lathe right and have the tools and know how to do threads? I myself would buy an aluminum version from you. It would be awesome if you made an offset LDC for the Matadors.

Damn you Elmer why are you so smart? Yes these perforated tubes started as plain Stainless steel sheets. I tell them how thick I want the sheet, what ID, OD and hole sizes, pitch. They then make a mould and once rolled, they are are then welded together. You can not unwrap them. Also very hard to crush with your hands. I wanted something that can withstand the power hungry clients. I’ve seen plastic and even then aluminum tubings crushed by the power of the blast. In the future I will look into aluminum tubes but they cost soo much more to make. To have anything CNC threaded is expensive caps/tubes. But with aluminum I will need to have it anodized and shipping cost of materials will be a lot more.

quote ElmerFudd:

Donny, are those proliferated tubes or were they sheets that you rolled into a tube shape? I noticed a lot of your LDC’s are made of CF. Do you use aluminum tubes as well with threaded end caps?

Donny stepping up his game! Looks great man!

Would you be able to ship one of them in pieces as a “gift” internationally? Small packages labled as a gift is not opened by customs and a LDC in pieces is just a CF tube and some Metal scrap. I would buy one for sure.

I bought a reg tester from Dman and the package was not opened by customs because I asked him to ship it as a gift. Works perfectly.

Awesome Donny!

First class!

Thanks Pippo, I don’t think a shroud alone will be able to quiet these guns. You ever seen any of AZ shrouds for the rapids? Talk about reach out and touch someone. That’s what it takes to quiet them down though. The great thing about LDC is that you can put them on or off depending on your shooting situation. For my compact mutant with my 6 inch LDC it is still only 29 inches long. About the same size as a STD R3M. Some people even ask me for longer ones 8 inches and longer. So that they can shoot in their backyard in peace. If they are out hunting they don’t have to have it on.

I’ve been working on new models the past 3 months. Hoping to make everything available mid to end of August. Still so much to do 🙂 But here is a quick glimpse.

– removable threaded end caps so that you can clean the internals and inspect any clippings
– .5 mm custom stainless steel washers
– choices up to .30 cal
– custom stainless steel perforated tubing
– also will have custom perforated plastic tubings for those that prefer plastic
– End caps will be knurled and black anodized
– 3 different size tubes
– 7 3/4 x 1.5 inches glossy CF
– 6 3/8 x 1.5 inches glossy CF
– 4 x 2 inches matte black CF
– perforated tubes will be wrapped with thick felt sheets

Not shown in the picture below is the 4 x 2 inch tube. Those are still being custom made.

A full shroud or reflex mod probably would look better (IMHO)

Nice item (congrats Donny) but probably makes a bullpub a bit long (IMHO).

At that point why bullpub? There are other possibilities….

(Though this is an example of custom job with foldable stock but a “collapsible” stock probably would already do the trick…)

A full shroud or reflex mod probably would look better (IMHO)

Nice, very nice!
