Hi All
Need a little help.
I noticed I was loosing pressure. I removed the tank stuck the end in some water and see bubbles coming out.
How do I fix this?
Thanks

Whats the specific size of the 0 ring seal for the bronze valve insert pls ? i have to fit a new one.

quote horus1970:

hi there, the most common cause for bottle leaking is the delrin valve stem which is pressed onto the base of the valve stem, dont need to waste money buying new one, you just remove valve body and put a little fine cutting compound on sealing face then chuck the top end of the valve stem in a drill chuck and pull backwards as the drill rototes the stem and polishes the 2 surfaces to a perfect match, then wash cutting compound off and there you go, can do this many many times before you need new valve seal.
surprised no one has sugested this?? its nearly always the root of leaks without firing.

thanks, can you put pics about that system? i don’t understand too much

sorry for my english

regards

You can upgrade the top hat/valve stem to a high flow.

Tony @ talontunes sells one for something like $35. Ultra nice piece.

This will increase velocities. You can only use your hammer spring pretension adjuster (aka powerwheel) to easily control velocity as the top hat and valve stem is one piece.

I know a lot of guys here have tried them and like them.

My gun did not like them but I’m one of the “broken toys” here on TAG. 😎

Are there any upgrades worthwhile if I rebuild the valve?

In order to fix it yourself, you will have to have a way to remove the valve. Don’t try to use a pair of vice grips. Use a VRT (valve removal tool) from Jim Gaska.

$15.00 + SH

It depends on where the bubbles are coming from.

If they are coming from around where the valve contacts the bottle, there is an O ring there.

If they are coming from where the top hat stem comes out of the valve, it could be the O ring in the valve insert and/or the derlin seat at the bottom of the valve assembly is worn. The other thing I’ve seen is the threaded insert on the bottom of the valve not tight. Rare but I’ve seen it.

Bottom line is you will have to take the valve off to fix the leak. You MUST bleed off the pressure in the bottle before removing the valve. If the valve has never been removed, they are a mother to remove. Air Force must use an impact drive to install.

It’s been a while since I ordered valve parts but I think the parts to do a full rebuild cost less than $20 including shipping.

There are a lot of guys on TAG that can do a rebuild for you and do it so much cheaper than what AF will charge you and do it quicker.

Personally, I charge $40 for a complete rebuild including parts and shipping and send it back to you the same day I get it. PM me if you’re interested.

I’d recommend you get a VRT and learn about the valve assembly. That way if any issues arise valve related in the future, you will have the knowledge and experience.

They ain’t that hard ’cause I can do it. 😀

where are the bubbles coming from. valve to tank replace oring valve to valve stem replace small oring out from tophat remove air from tank and rotate valve stem then check in water if still leaking send to Doug for resurfacing of valve seat
