Learn the hard way
So in my usual tinkering way I decided to cut 4″ off of an 18″ barrel on the used tss I purchased. However I didnt realize these barrels are choked. Is this is a gradual choke along the length of the barrel or just a portion towards the muzzle? Just wondering if I essentially cut off the choke and messed with the accuracy.
If thats the case… does anyone have a 12″ barrel for sale? 😕

I spoke with one of my gunsmith buddies that builds bench rest rifles and he also suggested to recrownthe barrel. mdh

A new barrel is about $120. Im hoping to find a used one for less. Any idea how much for a custom job?
I used to run with a couple of gunsmiths that could put that barrel back together in about an hr, it would be about an inch or so shorter but the cost would be the question. MDH

So I adjusted my reg a little to get some more fps out of it. I was hoping maybe the accuracy would be better with more speed. Unfortunately i have no way of checking actual speeds yet. Here is a 5 shot group at 20 yds and again at 30 yds. Not pin point at 30 but good enough for hunting I suppose. Im just thinking that if it opened up that far from 20 to 30 then going out to 40 and 50 might get pretty ugly.

I have been shooting it for a while now and have been frustrated with the random accuracy. Its def not at the level that Ive read about on these rifles. And so thats when I found out my mistake. Im just going to get another barrel some day i guess.
Worst part is that I had an extra barrel but didnt see a reason to keep it 🙄
And have you tested the accuracy since removing the choke? It isn’t always a bad thing! 😉 Usually, but not always!

Or cast some bullets for it now that it is chokeless… 😀
At least shoot it and see what happens….you might get lucky..

So your choke is gone. As and added bonus, you also lost your muzzle crown.

Ok thanks thats what I figured. I did put a new crown on it but never thought about the choke. Looks like its time to spend some more money. 😳

There is so much to consider still, just because you got 1 flyer is not a reason to recrown the barrel, shoot at least 200 rounds thru it 1st, maybe it will shoot better. Give us the procedure you used to crown barrel maybe we can help with an easier way.
