Q:

Lemak Airbolt (arrow launcher)

Hers the Lemak Version Of the arrow AF laucher .I made the first version back in 2001

Then It took me about a year to refine it to what it is today .I call it the Airbolt X-15. It shoots a 15 inch 325-355 grain 15″ carbon fiber bolt @ 345 fps .Ive had it set up to shoot over 600 fps ,but decided thats way too fast .Its hard to find a target to stop them and if you know bow hunting ,,it doesnt take a whole lot of power for a broad head to do its job at bow hunting distances, 10-50 yards .

It will shoot 1.5 inch group @ 35 yards for 15 shots with a standard talon valve , YOu have to try to shoot them so you dont hit the other bolts in the target so you dont hit them on the end and ruin them ! ,It will get around 25 all together before they start to drop off too much I use a x-caliber crossbow scope that is fullt ajustable for velocity,It really makes it very easy to point and shoot.
I have the Provisional Patent on it that I renew very year ,, It cost 25,000.00 to get the full patent !!!!What a crock!!Ive taken alot of big game with the Airbolt .I would say an exspandable broad razor tip is more leathal than any gun at the close ranges the arrows are used .

When I was building them I sold these all over ,,mostly to hunters out west and alaska,, they have hunted moose ,bear, elk etc . with ease . I remember doing a patent search and found the Swivel machine version(Airrow Gun) that uses the aluminum arrow over the barrel .I know aguy that has one ,,he said he bends the arrow alot ,,thats why I like the carbon, they don bend and Ive shot them 100’s of times with no problems ,unless it clears the target and hits a rock . The bushy tail on the knock makes them fly fast and straight ,They dont slow down like arrows with reg flechings because ther is way less wind drag on them.

]

As far as leagl,,Its a gray area , Ive talked to local game wardens and out of state and they all say something different .Some say it good for bow season some say its good for muzzel loading season, some say its illegal ,I say its a muzzel loader.I hunt on private property ,so I really dont worry about it .

They take time to build I would set them up ,sight them in and send them out for out of the box use.You could hunt anything on the planet with it.Its good to see others interested in arrow stuff

You are abosolutely correct… I tried the over-barrel set-up and it took alot of air to push the arrow to gain an speed.Look up swivel machine on line . he has the over barrel set -up with air power or you can get a kit to convet a ruger 10/22 ,they cost way too much !!!

Thank you Lee for posting your rigs!

I built the barrel inside the Airrow system and you are 100% correct that it uses a pile of air. Would like to try this system of yours. Do you have advice regarding fletching like you settled on?
Any help greatly appreciated
Walter….

I would think that the arrow inside the barrel instead of over it would be more efficient way to transfer the stored energy to the arrow. With the arrow over the outside of the barrel the air has to pressurize the entire length of the barrel before it even starts pushing on the arrow. That right there could explain why he can get such higher numbers with his rigs.

Thanks Harry ,,It has a smooth bore barrel and a heavy hammer ,, The 600 fps had a condor sized valve ,,But its too much power and an air hog !!!350 fps is pleanty for anything big ..

Wow that’s impressive Lee! I had no idea you built AF “arrow guns”! How in the world did you get it to shoot such a heavy projectile at 600fps? That is amazing. 350fps is plenty to take deer & black bear at a reasonable distance. Those guns look awesome!

Just another toy I want… along with a nice crossbow, compound bow, muzzleloader, .50 BMG, 7mm Rem Ultra Mag, .22-250, S410E, FX Monsoon, XD45, Beretta U22 … damn I’ll just stop there.

those are amazing!

from the sound of you post your not making them any more, or am I wrong about that and you are?

as far as legally hunting with them I would think they would fall under the cross bow category, but who can say what any given game warden would say at any given time?

You are right about the aluminum arrows being easy to bend. Im thinking your fluflu type arrows probably help some with the noise as well. Those are some awesome guns you’ve built!

holy shit 600 fps i thought getting closer to 400 was alot!

most impressive.

I remember seeing pics of the wood stocked version off and on over the last few years, nice to get some good insight as to the performance.

Thanks for sharing. ❗

A gun bow, man cool, what do you sell those for?

That is some impressive stuff. How quiet is the AirBolt?
