Q:

Lets talk about o-rings

I just ordered a bunch of o-rings from The O-Ring Store, but in hindsight I have some questions.

All of the o-rings I purchased are Buna-N 70’s, which are supposed to be the most commonly used o-ring in hydraulic/pneumatic motors, cylinders, pumps and valves. However, the Buna-N 90’s are listed for high pressure applications.

Should I have bought the 90’s for anything that is used under high pressure, such as the fill probe/regulator/etc?

For the life of me, I couldn’t find 3 x 25.2 o-rings anywhere. I bought 3 x 25.5 and 3 x 25, but again in hindsight, these appear to be in an area of high pressure (part #16 according to the owners manual). Should I continue the search? If so, where can I find them?

I see that there is no listing of the o-ring size for the barrel shroud. Does anyone know what size it is?

I also see that the fill probe o-ring size is not listed in the owners manual. I measured the spares that came with the gun:
1.8 x 4.5

Hooters, sounds like Ole Ernest took care of you. When I got my Vulcan Ernest did a full tune on it and replaced the O-rings with US made ones. Several months after that he sent me O-rings for my Vulcan in a bag. At that time he didn’t have a O-ring kit like he was selling for the Cricket but he may have that kit now. What would we do without Ernest?

Dear CPU…

Thanks for the link. Ernest Rowe to the rescue!!! Has just what I need…what a good guy he is!!!!

Some kind owner of a Vulcan should chime in soon to help you get only the one (s) you need, I’m hoping………

Here’s my question…is there an O-ring kit for the Vulcan? I don’t want to buy 50pc of the dang things.

I have a slow leak in my Vulcan. I checked the air gauge assembly and it looked fine so I put it back and submerged it, no bubbles. So…I am guessing the O rings in the reg or the valve need replacing.

Is there anywhere I can get just the O-rings I need?

Regards,

Kindly ‘Ol Uncle Hoot:

Thanks Greg. What a relief as I didn’t want to surf through the site again to buy more o-rings.

I used N90’s on my Crickets that had a stubborn leak in the AT or to maintain a higher fill pressure else where.

But usually N70’s are used for everything PCP related and some say it’s the only thing that a PCP requires and nothing more.
Harder O-ring can cause premature ware on certain parts that move like the piston in the reg.

Anyone care to chime in about the N70’s v.s. N90’s? 😛

Get the heck out of here! Amazon? Really? I buy on Amazon all the time, and would have never thought to look there!

Thanks a million!
