Q:

Lets talk about transfer ports…

I have noticed that Crickets (and probably other guns as well) seem to have different size transfer ports. The cricket has 3 TP’s as far as I am aware of. One in the barrel, one in the breech block and one in the valve. How come they are not the same size? Would it not be optimal for performance if the were equally sized?

Just as an example we will take a look at Octavius .22 Cricket.

Valve: 4,35mm
Barrel: 4,02mm
Breech: 5,06mm

Surely it would be better if the were equal? Say just as an example 4,5mm, like this:

Valve: 4,5mm
Barrel: 4,5mm
Breech: 4,5mm

Does anyone have something to say about this?

Yesterday I have had at home cricket cal.22 of my friend produced in year 2015
I have measured all three TP and I was excited and surprised together…

– FIRING VALVE= 4,30mm
– RECEIVER= 5,00mm
– BARREL= 4,1mm

They must be crazy or mess in factory. He has newer cricket than mine produced in year 2013 and he had small TP on firing valve than on mine.
Have anyone some rational explanation ?

Here is short summary:

Greg´s cricket.
Here is my TP sizes for my Cricket 22 std:
Firing Valve: 4,56mm
Receiver: 5,25mm
Barrel: 4,50mm

Here is my TP sizes for my Cricket 22 std:

My friends cricket 22 std year 2015

Nice, always good with an update, maybe you will get an extra shot

So, I´m recapitulating my transfer ports:

– VALVE= 4,50mm
– RECEIVER= 5,00mm
– BARREL= 4,3mm

Valve spring I set to 1/4 turn after the contact with aluminium wheel. One interesting observation in my previous setup I had set aluminium wheel at 1 turn after the contact with al. wheel. Speed was set with HST 880fps then I deiced to decrease valve tension. I put just 1/4 turn after the contact with al wheel. I got 896fps so I decrease HST to 880fps 😉 and I expecting better efficiency.

So,yeah I followed Octavius’s advice and I drilled my TP to 4,4 mm.And sweet Jesus! For the first time I saw 278m/s with jsb 18.Ill reduce the speed to 275m/s ad see how cricket performs at 50m.
There is a guy who tested different speed

Thanks Guys for helpful tits.. I mean tips…

But that guy has regulator set to 145bar !!

code :Немного о настройках. Благодаря Андрею O--O редуктор настроен на 145 Атм, что с используемой от деда пружиной позволило выжать 28,5-28,7 м\с тяжелой JSB. Больше не получилось.

TO ascarissuis I reed some post from RusBear and he adviced use speed 272mps despite he found in the test as best speed 275mps… may be due to huge air consumption.

I shall return

Lol, glad you are happy with your results so far! Don’t be afraid to come back with accuracy results once you have them

278mps with heavy 18grain (1,175gram) I have any shot strig yet. I do not plan to shoot too hot 278mps I just lower it to 268-270mps and set regulator to 125bar. Now I have 135bar because with my original TP I could not get 278mps neither with 140bar on regulator.
Now I plan to decrease reg. pressure to 125bar and set 880-890fps with good efficiency. 😉

4,4mm is still in reserve because Greg has original barrel from KalibrGun. His barres is 4,5mm but I decide drill out 4,4 for sure :biggrinn:

As rkr said 75-80% of rifle caliber is good for TP.

Jan
You managed to get 278 m/s with jsb heavies(18gr)or 16gr?.Have you run some shot strings to see if the speed is stable?
In your nopinion, is 4,4 mm TP enough?

Sorry to ask once more time, but I Want to be 100% certain before I drill my barrel 😳

Hi Cricket, picture above is after. Before I had any problem. I did it 1 year ago and pellets were ok – same as now with 4,4mm TP hole.

Is not necessary to take a pictures from many angles because it´s ok. I have checked for sure. 😉 I can send you that pellet for closer inspection

Is it before and after or is it the same pellet from different angles?

I forgot post pictures pellets what I pushed through the barrel

Why not? I have any problem understand Polish lang.

yeah, better be safe than sorry.

I just finished testing Poi changes with different tank pressures.Made a video, but since it is in polish it wont be of much help for you guys.
Luckily i have not observed any poi change from 230 to 110 bar .
Now i can rest in peace 🙂

Cricket has true!! I have insert into the barrel peace of wood that’s why I know when I finished 🙂
