Where do you rate Trijicon Mike? I don’t really have a choice, but was wondering what you think of them.
Might be fake, but its led to a few handgover’s on my part 😆

Here are the very vest.
These are the best of the best!
Zeiss
Hensholt
Swarovski
Leica or Leitz
Khales
Schmidt and Bender
Here is a incomplete list of other fine Euro optics.
Meostar= Nice. Good Prices!!! Crisp!
IOR==Damed good, a little heavy. Zeiss Scholt lens.
Doctor Optic Pretty good.
Khales, now owned by Swaro. One of if not the first Rifle Scope Builders. Very high quality. Much higher price now that Swaro owns them.
Jagermister=FAKE!!! Sold as European. They are Asian Junk and hawked at guns shows as top quality. They are Junk!!!
These are just a few.
Mike
Steiner. Entry level German optics. Competent, but not superior. They use to be cheap, but have gone up a lot. Way too much for the quality of the glass. but still, better than anything from the US, and just about anything form Japan. A lot of military contracts over the years.
They do a fine Job Jerry, but since they are now owned by Swaro, I figured I would just leave it out. There are a few other leaders out there. Leica for instance. Super quality. For some reason, they have just now gotten into the rifle scope business. but their bino’s are legendary performers. I have a nice set of 8×33’s here that Loveless gave me. Super light and CRISP!!! 😀
Until my house was broken into, my favorite pig hunting scope was a Kales 8×56 with the heavy post ret.. mounted on a nice Weatherby Mag. It stood out like you wouldn’t believe on a black pig’s shoulder at mid night!
Man I loved that Scope. Hope the sorry sob that stole it ended up with it as a suppository! 👿 😉
Mike
X2! Oh, you forgot Kahles contributions to the coatings race but I loved every word!
Jerry is right on here. But this isn’t the reason I won’t buy Lupy products.
Back in the day, 60’s and 70’s Leupold and RedField were the top hunting US scopes available here. Weaver was kinda a also ran. Popular, but far less quality. Now keep in mind, that we didn’t know much if anything back then about high quality German Optics.
They has a huge turf war going on between the two of them. They spent huge amounts of money in the shooting mag’s. pushing their scopes.
Redfield lost the war, and went under. Later to re-emerge as a low quality Asian produce. Running its once good rep.
They both claimed to be the best money could buy. And we bought into it.
Well, until some of us had the opportunity to look through real optics.
But this is where my disenchantment with Lupy started. They made a big deal about being the best in the world. Fast forward to the late 80’s to mid 90’s.
Lupy told every body that would listen that they were now the premier scope. Best light gathering. Strongest. Best period. The claimed that anyone that spent the extra money to buy a scope from Europe, was just wasting their money. Trouble is, they didn’t seem to have a clue what the European scope were capable of. They claimed the highest light gathering available. They weren’t even close. Not even a little bit close.
You see, in Germany for instance, you can hunt at night. But no light is allowed. So, the scopes had to perform in low light. I’m not just talking about low light like in close to sun down, I’m talking hunting in the moon light, or star light. Now even if a Leupy could be used, which it couldn’t, yo would never be able to see the reticle. If yo were lucky enough to actually see something in the field of view, you would never be able to see the ret. Useless in very low light.
OK you say, we aren’t’ allowed to hunt at night here. Ah-Ha, Say’s I. In Germany, they like to hunt wild boar a night. Now imagine trying to see a Black Hog at night, and trying to see the Black Reticle against the black coat of a big Boar in the deep woods at nigh. Even with the moon out, the Black Forrest is DARK. A Lupy would be totally useless there. Lupy so much as says so. They claimed that their scopes were the brightest available. But hold on, the Germans and Austrians, Swiss, and others were doing it all the time. How?
Superior optics. Superior Coatings, Superior Reticle Technology. Thats how. And they did a very fine job. They a have been pulling it off for decades! At least back to the 60’s!
Well, the word was starting to get around so Lupy started a campaign to put an end to American Shooters interest in the high quality European Glass.
First they stated that their advertisements that it was a waste of money to pay the high cost of the top name European makers Scopes. As theirs were just as bright as the Euro’s at a much lesser cost.
Then Hunters started asking about the 30MM tubes used by the Euro Scopes. Lupy said Just A Gimmick. Huge waste of money. Makes you look like a rookie wit a huge scope on your gun. In other works, they had no idea why Euro’s scopes were 30MM.
Well, when the Zeiss, S&B and Swaro brands started cutting into their profits, they went on another campaign. They announced the New and Improved Leupy 30MM Euro Quality Scopes. Humm, didn’t’ they just tell us that there was no advantage to the Euro Scopes, and no advantage to the 30mm tube?
Then they claimed hight light transmission with the new 30 MM Scopes. Again BULL. They either had no idea what the 30mm was for, or jut out right lied. A 30MM tube does not give more light. That is the job of the objective lens.
But they attacked that too. Saying that the ridiculous over sized objective accomplished nothing, while adding so much weight that it made a rifle unwieldy. Humm-Works for the German’s are we Americans that weak? So they brought out the larger objective lens.
Still they weren’t getting the full picture of what the Euro glass was all about. They were still dark in low light hunting. Even the top Japanese offerings were now kicking their butt’s in this area.
So once again Lupy started a campaign to try to catch up. Even though they were once again claiming to be the Very Best Money Could Buy!
They started trying to match some of the coatings used on the better Euro Glass, (Although they claimed it was useless), They for the most part hadn’t been using the good stuff, nor were they putting it where it belongs.
There are different buzz words for the coatings, or how much and where it is used.
There is “Non Coated Optics” =Cheap Crap
Coated Optics= Coatings on face of the objective lens and rarely on the ocular lens.
Fully Coated= Coatings on the front and ocular lens air surfaces.
Multi Coated= More than one coating on the objective lens. Possibly the ocular lens.
Fully Multi Coated= More than one layer on all lens surfaces out side and inside of the scope. Including the erector lens.
Some companies have even tried to state that coatings cut down on light transmission. It does right the opposite. The kill stray light, and help with the resolution and color correctness of the image.
Read closely the leupy brochures. Not all leupy’s are created alike.
They fought the Fully Multi coatings for years. The still do in most of their offerings.
Now that they have finally stepped up with the coatings and lens, you still can’t see the damed ret. unless you order the custom shop work form them.
They claim to have invented the duplex Ret. Well, they didn’t. It was Zeiss that did, and it was decades before Lupy. Lupy is just too damed arrogant to admit that they are nothing but copiers. And they got it wrong at that. The original is known as th German #4 Ret.
They claim that they make the strongest scope. Well they don’t . Notice in their film that they use a three piece tube that is screwed together at the turret housing. Not a one piece like other makers. Add to that, the threads that have to be cut in the tube, further weaken the design.
Many companies now use one piece tubes. They also extrude the tubes and forge them. Not simply turned out of billet. This makes other Scope designs Much Stronger!
They still use the old “Friction Adjustment” on many of their models. No body does this any more. Except some super low quality Bargain Basement BB Gun and ultra small tube .22 RF Scopes. Yet they still put them out there.
While other companies have been developing shock proof click adjustment, that return to zero, Lupy just keeps on putting out sub standard decades old tech.
They have had to step up on their top of the line Scopes though. The Click adjustments do a fine job. It had to get Military contracts. But then again, they had to get the Asians to make them for them. 😆
After years of making fun and putting down the Euro Scopes, they finally step up and started making copy’s of the Euros. But after putting the Euros down for their cost, Lupy copied them and then tried to match their price. Yep, after 20 years of saying that the prices were WAY too High, they copied them and raise their own price to Euro levels.
Trouble is, they dont’ match the Euro quality.
On their lower line scopes, the are using Asian Glass and Coatings.
The make a big deal about now using Europoean glass in their Top Scopes. Well, there are a LOT of European Lens Grinders. Have you noticed, jsut like the Asian suplier, they don’tEuropeanjustsupplierdon’t bother to say who. Well if it was the best Glass form Europe, you can bet your bottom dollar, they would say so. Its’ Scholt by the way. Owned by Zeiss-Hensolt. Leupy doesn’t even come close.
Once again they are making empty claims. Playing on names and work games.
Leupy has several things going for them. Decades of slick advertising. The only game in town for US made optics for decades, and a good warranty. No better than any other quality brand though. You just see in in printed advertisements a Lot More.
The price has gotten way out of hand for a second tier brand. Just goes to show you what good advertising can do for you!
Thanks to EPA regulation, it is difficult to impossible to make quality glass in this country. I’ve encountered the problem in the aircraft field where the government says no Chinese content, the glass has to have XXX properties and OBTW you can’t use the lead and chemicals it takes to make that stuff here…
We’ve gone over the top on regulation and environmental issues. It all sounds great that the runoff from a factory is cleaner than rain water… if you have a job (like a campaign manager or paper pusher) but if you’re looking for work and the factory just closed because it’s cheaper to import than live with the regulations, well you just had the chance to make world class products taken away.
I think it’s a disgrace that Leupold imports glass instead of importing tubes to put the glass into! (Ideally, they would make it all)
Guy’s, I’m in a lot of pain. My back is killing me. Too much pain to think stright now. I’ll try to give a decent explination of my feelings on the Leupold scams tomorrow.

Pablo –
Golden Ring is their flagship line, from those video’s you’d expect it to have zero outsourced parts other than the lens…
BUT
All their lense’s are “made in the Asian rim” which is an attempt at ambiguity which they hope you’ll think they mean Japan when in all likelyhood its China as any company that has Lenses made in Japan will announce that fact.
Yet inspite of all that – their prices are still high.
😯 That vid would have you beleive that its all made in the USA by long term, dedicated employees who practically hand build them….
WANKERS. If what YN is saying is true, I’d rather buy an ‘up front’ piece of chinese crap for 100 quid than spend 300 quid on the same scope with a couple of Leupold bits inside and Leupold written on the side. 👿
Some people feel like they are sellout’s. While they make some items at their Oregon plant, a lot of their product’s (if not all product’s) contain assemblies or part’s made in China.

How do you deal with a people that cheating, stealing, and lying is not only condoned, but a point of national pride. 👿
Sections of video 1 and 2 show exactly why I won’t buy Leupold products. It says a lot if you know enough about optics to read between the lines. 😉
I don’t understand? Why not buy Leupold?
knifemaker———- for those of us not in the know, why not buy these optics? i never could justify that kind of money for optics.
Damed Chinese just never stop.
