Q:

Limited Tophat adjustment on NEW AF tank what is going on???

My buddy was complaining about his new .25 Condor being very inconsistant so I took a look at it and noticed the breech was flopping upon firing and loose against the tophat?

Here is a pic but the new tank has a max adjustment of .089 and the old style valve tank .112 (actually more) can’t understand why the valve thread is maxed out?

Feedback would be really appreciatted.

The tophat is mostly the same. What changed is the delrin seal. The hole for the stem is deeper which makes for a shorter stem with less ajustment. You can fill the hole in the delrin seal with something to jack the stem up about 2 to 3mm and its back to normal range. The new seals also are square instead of tapered which makes less airflow. OK, i’m back.
tophat:
OAL: .480
INNER thread depth: .259 ( measured from front, or, muzzle end ).
that ” brim ” thickness .205

valve stem:
OAL 1.408
outer thread lenght: .226
i have no idea what the thread size is. i don’t have metric taps.
my guess is either the threads on the tophat weren’t cut deep enough or the threads on the stem are too long.
easiest fix would be to chuck it up in a lathe and remove a couple threads on the stem. two threads should be more than sufficient, from what i can tell, just by looking at mine. two threads equals 40 thousandths on my digital mic. that should get you the adjustment you need. hope this helps. 🙂

i’ve got an old tophat. i’ll go take some measurements and get back to you.
on a side note, is there a bushing around the base of the cocking handle? maybe if you cut a thicker one, that would take up the slack. either way, i’ll be back.
