Listen up all you P Rod owners!!!
I know there have been a couple of post on Airgun Lab’s double airtube P-rod conversion but I’d thought I throw my experience out there.
A customer came to me and wanted a full-tilt-add-more-shots-and-more-power conversion to his Marauder Pistol that could compete with his son’s Talon SS.
I’d done a few power upgrades to the P-rods before, but at the cost a shorter shot string so more power? – that would be easy. But to increase the shot string to that of an SS, that’s a little bit much. My SS puts out right at 20fpe as does my P-rod, and the SS gets an easy 50 shots while maintaining an SD of less than 10fps. But simple math (airforce tank 490cc vs. 135cc double tube conversion) isn’t going to get SS run time.
Adding more shots was going to be the hard part. I’d had also installed the HDD’s and Bstaley mods in these other guns but he wanted to DOUBLE the number of shots. How close could I get?
I talked to Lloyd at Airgun Labs (airgunlab.com) and decided to try his double tube conversion to increase shot count and pull out all the stops to increase power.
Airgun Labs conversion was everything Lloyd said it was going to be. I went with the alum tube to keep the gun light and the black forearm to keep the gun stealth looking.
For power improvement I used a valve tube drilled out to .109″ and added a heavy hammer spring. To help boost the shot string I installed Steve in NC’s HDD.
In a little less than two hours I had the gun on the chrony to develop a shot string and this is what I was able to get out of it.
With a start fill 2700psi I was able to get four magazines (32 shots) to produces a maximum of 19.9fpe with a SD of 12 ending in a fill of 1800psi.
This is very much in line with claimed performance on airgunlab.com website.
So my conclusion is, if you want more power AND more shots or just more shots, a double tube conversion from airgunlab.com is the BOMB.
p.s.
(I told another customer about this conversion and he wants me to make his a high shot count 10 meter paper puncher. Will I be able to get 60 shots?)
Thanks Lloyd !!
