Q:

Long or Standard R3M?

I am new to the forum and I don’t own and Edgun and have never shot one…so I really have no idea what barrel length is better. I have my deposit with Tony on the .25 cal but have to decide on barrel length. How many shots extra (Estimate) will you get with the long versus the standard length?

Tony says the .25 cal R3M is 1 lb heavier and 5 inches longer than the standard length. Is the extra shot count really worth the extra weight trade off? I will add a scope to either gun. Most of my hunting will be done in an open field and some in trees and brush that are not very densely wooded so the extra length would not be a problem.

Thanks for your opinions

I get a solid low 70s regulated shots all yr out of my R3 25 Long at 885fps.
I’m 5-10″ and hunt with mine through thick and thin. At appx 34″ it’s still very very compact.
I have a Hawke Sidewinder 8-32×56 with Hawke high mounts. Very comfortable head position.
The benefit of longer barrel efficiency and longer moderator quietness(especially modded) far outweighs any percieved loss of compactness.

Thanks for the info. I read Ed’s thoughts on the standard versus the long and I think I made up my mind to go with the standard length as I was leaning that way anyway. Hopefully the standard will be “backyard friendly” enough not to piss off my left wing neighbor as I am in the people’s republic of kalifornia after all…

I’m sorry to post another question in this thread but I am new to high end air rifles. Some people go with medium height scope rings and tall sope rings rings. How do you determine what is the correct ring height scope combo for the R3M?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a scope and ring combo that will work well for this gun? I am a set it and forget it guy…don’t need to tweak things endlessly so a tried and true set up recomendation would be most welcome.

Thanks
