long range .22 or .25 ?
I have a .22 talon ss with an 18″ barrel, hi-flo tank and stricker weight from a condor. this setup gives excellant accuracy and around 1.5k fps with 21gr kodiaks. It’s range is 70+yds. what should I expect with this setup in .25? will the weight difference of the .25 make up for the fps loss allowing it to fly as flat or flatter than the .22? I like the power of the .25 but don’t want to lose my range.

I have found the .22 and .25 have very close trajectories using a Kodiak. But as Mike said, the .25 really does make itself known at the target compared to the .22 😎
Dooo it! Just got my Walt .25 18″ barrel. The Condor is noticeably more accurate than the .22 24″ stock barrel. You will loose about about 100fps or so just by downgrading length. Don’t have a chrony so I can’t give any data.
Quiet is good for closed in environments, i.e. inside, backyard…if you are shooting at distances over 100 yards, you will most likely be in an open air environment and even my .25 24″ unshrouded condor is very quiet with nothing to echo off of. I don’t think a shroud is necessary for a “long distance” shooter, and if you are setting up a “long distance” shooter, you simply need that 24″ barrel 😉
so if i was to site in my setup at say 50yds, at 100yds the .25 would have less drop than the .22 ( using kodiak pellets in both) ?
.25 rules for longer ranges, and has a lot more retained energy when it gets there. 😉

if you are getting 1500fps you need a new chrony

I have a walt 20″ .25 and a j3 valve shooting the kodiaks around 910 fps, and a bit less than a broom stick 24″ shrouded gun.
Those shrouded 24″ are long ass.

Look in to the custom length some what not so giant so long assed 24″ er

thanks for the input, i think i’m gonna try it. would like to go the 24″ route but had plans on mounting a shroud on my gun to quiet it down and doing that on a 24″ would be too long for me. just hope i could get enough fps with the 18″.
I have the same setup with a 24″ .25cal barrel… With my PW at 6 (50%) I was pushing 30 grain H&N 1020fps with a TH setting of 0.088″… I will detune it a bit (close the TH gap probably to 0.080″ or 0.075″…) so it will push those suckers at 1050 with the PW at about 75%. As set from the factory it would easily break the sos with the PW at 75%.
Amazing power and by far the best long distance accuracy because the power is there (unlike the stock Talon tank) to go max velocity and keep some serious energy past the smaller pellet…
If you can get some 30 grain 22 cal pellets they would keep the energy but the side area in relationship to the frontal area the round would be more prone to cross wind effects at longer distances compared to the 25 pellet…
