long range power
I chrono’d my condor ss .25 at 903fps with eunjin 43.2gr at 6/1 power level. I washed the pellets to remove all lead dust dried them and mix a small amount of synthetic gun oil in them. My question is, what is the best route for this rifle to make it a reliable 100+yard hunting machine. Coyotes/deer

This gun is my 257, it has a heavy valve and spring from Doug Noble … it has a 27+ ” barrel and shroud from R&L. I have a 115g hammer from Doug that I will put in when it get a chance. The other thing is the 4500 PSI CF tank, that starts out at 3600psi with this gun. You can use a bigger volume tank and do the same think, but i wanted to keep this gun as light as I could … I have her set up for 4 shot bell curve, and I can’t remember it, it is probably on one of the forums somewhere ;- )
The reason for the heavy hammer is it will bring my cocking effort down and instead of being on 7ish with a heavy spring I can be around 2 or 3 so there will be less cocking effort.
This gun as they say ” brings it” The gun is not shot much as it has right now only one purpose …… “YOTE” hunting, of which I can do very little of – I have just one little place that I know of where I can hunt them, as I really don’t like driving a bunch.
Like I said she shoots 72gr 257420 slugs at 995fps ….. and is very hunting quiet, no bang, no sound of a gun shot at all, just a big push of air sound.
I would have no hesitation of Yotes or head shot pigs for sure. I have a OZR of 2.6″ between 14yds and 85yds … put the x on the kill zone and you will be 1.3″ high or low … zero is 50 yds ! … She has 100fpe to 200 yds … I was reading ChairGun wrong yesterday !!!! the BC of .129 keeps this bullet going !
This is a very powerful air rifle for sure.

That’s nice, willing to share your build info? I’d like to know what you got in it.
My 257 is throwing 72gr 257420 slugs at 995 fps … over 100fpe at 150 yds …. which is more than enough for my once in a while use for sure.
Here she is looking proud !

That would be the best way to go. You could use cast bullets for hunting and pellets for plinking. That’s the best of both worlds in one gun. :8:
I appreciate the replies. I’m working on a .257 setup to take advantage of the cast bullet ballistic coefficient. Should put me where I want to be.
That is not bad shooting but he wants to shoot almost twice the distance you are shooting. You need a lot more power for deer. Just my :2cents:
might have enough power already. deer from my personal experience is also soft target but i havent taken above 60kg. but the accuracy? i doubt the gun can be a sub 2inch. ive taken numerous hogs up to 50m with light pellet 25.4gr king. that i can comfortably putting it in the ear canal or so. id keep it under 40m to go through skull. i have a setup for bullet for 140 fpe. i missed once at 50m and stop using. farmer found it after my trip and it was slightly under what i was aiming for. so you can imagine a 40fpe gun brought it down better than a 140fpe if accuracy is not there. gotta think about accuracy vs power too when it comes to limit your range
Coyotes, yes .. Deer .. ?
My Answer !
As an owner of a few Condor 25 cal guns the secret to getting long rand power and great ballistics, is not your gun so much, but your bullet. EJ Heavies are fine for up to about 50ish yards at your speed (I get 945fps, 50fpe – 24″ barrel)
I very highly recommend Nielsen’s Airgun Specialty ammo … I use his 39gr slugs …. these are mini bullets and have a very high BC. They shoot out of my Condors at 945+fpe but !!!! They have 50fpe at 150 yards !! This slug turns your “Pellet Gun” into an “Air Rifle” !

It is all about fpe at target. If you change out the valve/tophat to allow more air and use a heavier bullet, you should be able to get your gun up to 120+ fpe at the muzzle. Hunter Supply has a #257 in a 87gr that they will size down to .251. I take these and using a razor sharp chisel, shave the end to make it sharp, taking any tailings from sizing off. You may try this setup to get you over the 100 fpe mark. I slugged my stock barrel using these .251 #257’s and it doesn’t hit the bottom of the grove until it reaches the choke. Accuracy out to 75 yards is just a bit over MOA.
How are people shooting hogs and such at 90+ yards? I’m not doubting your experience, I’m just trying to understand. I see and read of people shooting 400 yards with air rifles and shooting through boards. I’d think the energy to slam through a board at 400 yards adequate enough energy to take game at 150yd. I am very familiar with traditional firearms,bc,and loading. PCP rifles are new to me as I just purchased a condor ss.
You have to look at it like this. A rifle shooting a .44 mag is maxed out at around a 125 yards. It is more like a 75 yard gun.
If it was converted to .257 or .30cal?
I think a 100 yards is a little too far for a .25 for that size game.

beautiful rifle mate. i have a question. has anyone make shroud bigger in diameter than that? could that shorten the shroud considering increase of the volume? cheers
