Q:

Looking for a flashlight to go on the SS

I’m looking for a flashlight that can be helpful on shots up to 40 yards away. I was just wondering what you guys have and how it works for you? I want something that is easy and simple to mount.

I have a Sreamlight TLR1, IT is small, light and bright. A great little LED light. Will last 4 hours constant on, (2) cr123 batteries.

I’m using a Surefire C-2 at the moment. I have a M-3 that I’m thinking of trying. I have the Streamlight shown earlier, and it has very good throw. But it’s a lot heavier than the Surefire. I am sticking with Incandescent bulbs. I’ve tried the LED bulbs, but the color just isn’t right. Other than the eyes, a rabbit disappears in the brown grass here with the Led. Everything looks gray with them. I don’t mind shorter battery life. I use the Streamlight for spotting the game, and only switch the gun light on when ready to shoot. I put the high intensity bulb in which only has 20-03 min. runtime two months ago. And I’m still using it. The streamlight is rechargeable, so this works out great!

I have the c-2 mounted in close to the front grip so that all I have to do is lightly touch the cliky button with my index finger to light up the target. I may put a pressure switch on it and see how I like it. .

Awesome thanks a lot. Photo, do you have the LED 6P or the original?

I have both the stock bulb 6P original and the Cree LED module. The stock bulb works really good, but the high output Cree is a better way to go in the long run. Check out the link above Y has posted, that’s the same setup I have with out the press. switch.

I would also say the Surefire 6P is a great setup.

Yes, the accessory rails are also 11mm. I mount mine on the side of my tri-rail, but the lower rail would be ok too if you don’t have bi-pod mounted.

As far as a red filter, the Surefire ones are nice and are flip caps but they’re a little expensive. You can find other brands that work on ebay. It would be no big deal to color some clear plastic or use colored transparent paper.

For illuminating game use a red filter. It’s less likley to spook them but works best at making eyes glow also.

That’s great to hear python. The accessory rails on the SS are 11mm dovetail as well, right?

And as for filters, would you recommend the surefire filters and which color?

One ring will do the job, but two will fit if you wanted it sturdier…though you wouldn’t need it. One inch rings are perfect, not too small, and no shimming.

The flashlight turns on and off with a turn of the tail switch. Turn it partially and you can just push the momentary button on the end of the tail switch. Pick up a corded pressure switch from ebay if you’d like.

No adjustability in beam brightness or size, but you don’t need it. It’s dialed in well with the factory lens.

That setup should be great… longer run time with the LED lamp. You’ll be impressed at the output and nice beam, trust me. You’ll never want Wal-mart lamps again.

Thanks for the help guys. I’m thinking the 6P LED should work just fine at 50 yards, right? Some things I like are the incredibly long battery life, LED lights, compact size, and low weight.

So 1″ rings should do the job? Should I use 1 or both of the rings? Where would I put the rings on the flashlight? How is it turned on/off?

Just find a flashlight laying around your house, measure the tube, and go but a scope ring to fit it.

Here’s a decent setup –

Plus a lot of other suggestions in the thread from other guys.

This is what i have on my gun http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=10 It is bright as hell but also huge. I use it for hunting crows at night 😯 It was a little small for 30 mm rings, but too big for 1″ rings. I wrapped a paper strip around the tube, and that worked great.

Surefire 6P… or 9P if you want a little more distance. They’ll fit in standard 1″ rings. Either way, go with rechargeable batteries… anything that bright will suck them dry quick. For the 9P I recommend two 17500 rechargeables.

The 9P illuminates well enough I could take rabbits to 100 yards at night, by the glare of their eyes.

I should throw in a plug here… http://www.candlepower.com

Edit: To keep from spooking you may want to pick up a red filter, or use some red transparent paper like candy wrapper.
