Low power question
Just got a Talon SS .177 and its only 8fpe, UK limit is 12fpe.
I’ve tryed using the search function, but there a lots of information to process! 😕
Just after the quickest/cheapest way to up the power to 12fpe.

Hi Chris, is it working well now?
Yay!! 😀
Just been back to the gun shop with air bottle was real low having not been filled prior to or after the last repair was only at 100bar. Hammer spring again has been adjusted much stiffer now, has placed a rubber spacer between the bottle and top hat refilled bottle to 200bar, and is now shooting 11.77 with 8.2g field target trophys probably be over with magnums.. Should be good to go from here on out I hope! Cheers for all your advice! 😉
What would adjusting the tophat gap to 2mm do?
Ah, tp already at 4mm. Ok, then thats not the prob, though 4mm is high, best to reduce it down to 2-2.5mm . What psi are u filling to? Have you shot it all the way down to lower pressures and then chrony’d it? Could be you are getting partial valve lock to start(the valve is not opening properly cos of high pressure) and hence low ftlb/fps. Or, the main spring is knackered. Or, the preload(spacers behind the spring) are not enough. Is the frame clean inside? Have you lubed(divers silicone grease) the orings in the breech(the black bit you cock) Has anyone monkied around with the internals? Is it a stock hammer?
Where abouts are you?
Just got it back from the gunshop (free repair) and the tophat is about 4mm from the valve body but still only firing 9fpe 🙁
What would adjusting the tophat gap to 2mm do?
On the tophat u have a couple little grub screws. Loosen those off, wind the tophat out so you have about a 2mm gap between the tophat and valve body, then retighten the grub screws. If that sorts it, loosen the grubs again, add a little loctite and retighten. Leave to set for 12 hrs or so before you use it again.
What are tophat setting? gun is secondhand
Mines a used one, the top hat is`nt set anywhere at the moment as it has become loose and im trying to find a sutable allen key to fit, not many options locally, but when ihave one ill be trying it @ 0.70 and up,
it has Not got The Stealth valve does not have the o-ring in the stem shaft.

Whats your tophat setting?
Is it a new Stealth or 2nd hand?
thanks
Is it a new Stealth? The Stealth valve does not have the o-ring in the stem shaft, a little air tends to escape on each shot, should not be much though.
Diver’s Silicone for Air – you can buy it at any SCUBA shop.
2800psi was too high for me… keep testing at lower pressures. Don’t get hung up on the numbers – just find what your gun likes. Try a heavier pellet, look for RWS Supermag 9.0gn and H&N Barracuda 10.6gn.
I don’t own a stealth, so my knowledge of that tank/valve is limited. Maybe a Brit can help out?
hi sorry to hyjack but how is this done (Done the tissue test and it didnt move when placed over the breech) im new to the stealth and ive noticed theres alot of air escapes from the top hat area when the shot is fired ?
thanks
Using 8.6 grain H &N Field and Target Trophy
Filling bottle to 2800psi (200bar)
What silicone do you recommend?
Done the tissue test and it didnt move when placed over the breech.
Will also look up pabUK profile.
Thanks.
What pellet? You may need a heavier one or one that fits in the breech better. Don’t forget to put a little silicone as per the DVD to help seal everything.
What pressure are you using? a lot of owners find 3K is too high try 2600psi instead (I get 40×50 yard shots starting there with 177). Also, is the breech fully home on the top hat when the hammer is cocked? any gap or play will reduce the transfer of energy.
If all else fails – drive to PabUK’s home and have him tune it 😉
