M-16 Question.
Does the M-16 5.56 Automatic Rifle use an Adapter to fire Blank Ammo?
If a blank adapter is used DOES it plug up the muzzle.
I know that the M-60 7.62 machine gun uses a blank adapter that plugs up the muzzle! Being gas operated it won’t fire with out the Blank adaper.
Well, it will fire blanks single shot with out the adapter. won’t cycle the bolt?
Anyway what I want to know is how many blanks will a M-16 fire befor it jams. Normal Casual target practice rate of fire?
Will a M-16 fire 5000 blank rounds without cleaning? I think not, but don’t know?

YES, the ar15/m16 uses a Blank Firing Attachment (bfa). It’s a red cap that attaches to the flash hider, with a screw in plug that tightens against the muzzle. I do not know if you would get 5000 rounds through it, but we would use them all day in training with out many problems.

I fired the M16 .22 rim fire adapted version, 100 rounds, once a year to stay
qualified. 50 rounds to zero and 50 rounds to qualify.
Cleaned befor and after each class. On prone fire the M16 would jam if you rested it on the clip. That was the only problem I ever had.
I don’t remember what was used to clean it with? I do remember using Breakfree CLP to clean the M60. Don’t remember how many rounds used during training but no where near 5000 befor cleaning.
