Q:

M-Rod Arrived

I ordered A P-Rod from Pyramyd Air last Dec when they were offering free shipping and decent discount . It arrived A few days ago , final cost 350 $ .Not exactly an El-Cheepo but about 1/3 the cost of A FX Ranchero .I think this pistol is going to be A lot of fun ! Although a large pistol , it feels lite and balances well . The trigger is excellent ! The initial testing shows about 600 fps with 21g kodacs and about 630 fps with 18g JSBs . I don’t have any CPs right now but would expect them to be in the high 600s . I’m not sure what I’m going to use as a sight , I’m thinking maybe Sight Mark dual shot with a lazer .Temperaly I’ve borrowed A 3-7 Leupold from my 10/22 and I can tell you this pistol appears capable of excellent accuracy .Shooting at 30 yds from sand bags It will pretty much stack pellets . I seem to get an occasinal flyer with the JSBs , but it could just be me . Any way as I first said I think this is going to be a fun gun !

Shoot Shovel & ShutUp,

glad your liking the gun, I really like mine. Wed I took a fox squirrel @ 63 yards with mine. First shot I missed him, but the second shot found it’s mark.

Can you post a shot string with the 21 & 18 gr pellets you have.
That would be some good info for other p-rod guys.

Thanks. 😀

I just haven’t shot this enough to recommend a pellet . Most of the shooting I’ve done so far has been with 18g JSBs because thats what I’ve got a lot of .So far they look good but the few 21g Kodiacs I’ve shot grouped well .

The P-Rod is accurate enough to rate a good quality 4x pistol scope but I’m leaning toward something with unlimited eye relief , probably some kind of a red dot and maybe a lazer .

My go to gun is a regulated 25 condor . I like it so much I seldem shoot my 22 condor , which is why I’ve got so much 22 cal JSBs laying around . I bought the P-Rod primarly for something easy to carry and fun to shoot . I think it may make a good pickup gun for situations you don’t want to make a lot of noise .

Is it a “go-to” gun? That’s what my .25 Marauder has become for me. I like the P Rod, but would use it as a carbine with it’s stock. But that’s just me.

Good to hear. I’m looking for a short range PCP hunter… 20 yards is more than enough. The TSS is great out to 40-50 yards but large and less fun to setup a shot.

It sounds like the P-ROD is a good 1000fps springer replacement as far as accuracy and power goes. i.e. 20-30 yard comfort zone with about 14fpe at muzzle.

What do you recommend for pellet? and pistol sight?

Yes ! Out to 30 to 40 yds , beyond that the pellet starts to drop in a hurry . Also I forgot to mention , its very quite , so its suitable in situations where discrestion is required .

quote Shoot Shovel & ShutUp:

In hunting situations the key to good accuracy with a pistol is to forget about off hand shooting and find a good rest ( such as the side of a tree ) to brace the pistol against

I do that with my Talon SS… so a good rest + P-ROD without stock should be a great pest removal combo.

With a 2900 psi fill you can shoot about 3 mags ( 24 ) shots at full power . I’m sure by playing with the settings , you can get a lot more shots with a little less velocity .

Off hand pistol shooting is something some people pick up easily and others never master . I got involved with pistol shooting in the Navy and the late 1970s was in charge of the pistol range at Sub Base New London . Many sailors came through that range and for every 1 that was a naturaly good shot there were 5 that had a tough time .

It’s tempting if you can get the accuracy for a 20 yard tree rat shot without using a stock…. is that possible?

I kind of want one.. how many shots per fill you getting?
