Q:

mabey I was expecting to much

So i got my condor SS .25 cal ran to the paintball shop and had the tank filled to 3000 psi got home turned the spring adjuster to mid way and took a few pot shots It still does not have a scope yet 🙂

Its a lot louder than I was expecting. I even took the end cap off and checked to see if there were baffles in there. I will have to talk to my one gun friendly neighbor and see how loud it is away from the gun.

Other than that I am happy and cant wait for a way to fill it 🙂

So what are the best ways to quiet one down even more ?

Glad it is quieter than you originally thought. I have seen people post more than once about having a friend shoot so they could here the gun and they are always surprised at how much louder the gun sounds to the shooter than it does 20 feet away. I know my .25 condor is quieter than my .25 mrod.

I take it back 🙂 its quiet enough for me. I let my brother shoot it and its amazingly quiet and I have no doubt the neighbors will not be bothered and if they are well they can kiss my air gun

I did add a 3/8 od by 1/4 id 1/16 cheepo o ring from homedepot to the tophat without removing it not sure if that really did anything but it did not hurt.

I do not have a chrono and the noise I was complaing about was from the gun not the air going out but its alot less than it seems like when your ear is not on the tank lol.

It may have also quieted down when the tank dropped below 2900 psi. but I will have to mess with it more to be sure. I guess the true test will be when the anti gun sissy that lives to my right calls the sheriffs and I find out what the county really does about air guns out side city limits 🙂

i will still probly add the talon tunes hammer slap mod but not till I get several hundred through it.

I take it that the TT hammer slap mod voids the factory warentee ? I am not sure how much of the gun has to be taken apart to get in installed.

Do you have a Chronograph? You could be shooting the pellets pretty fast. And if its a back yard gun, with a 25 (even a 22 for that matter), you don’t need much power. So since you turned the gun half way up, the gun is probably loud cause you are making a ton of power.

Also, being new to airguns, one thing i can tell you is that everyones perception of quiet is very different. QUIET or WHISPER QIET is thrown around often on airgun forums and its HYPE. Once you buy the gun, your not impressed with “WHISPER QUIET”. Remember, a factory is not gonna make a WHISPER QUIET airgun. It would raise the cost of the gun by a couple hundred bucks easy if they did. 99% of the time, the truth is, YOU HAVE TO SPEND EVEN MORE MONEY to get is “WHISPER QUIET”. just an FYI.

ShadyGunner,

Your top hat is the end of the valve which the air comes out of and looks like a “silver top hat”. It should have 2 small set screws to hold it in place. What he means by .095 is the measurement between the brass part and the back of the top hat in inches. The factory top hat can be spun in or out to adjust the amount of air that comes out. The 4/8 would be the power wheel that you put at midrange. 4 being the linear reading on top and the 8 is the rotary number. Your gun may be set up shooting those jsb’s faster than the speed of sound and what you may be hearing is the sonic boom, or crack. This happens at around 1100 fps and changes with altitude and temperature. This is one of the reasons we keep our guns shooting around 900 fps. Poke around in the reference section for a wealth of knowledge on this subject. P.s. Don’t tighten the little set screws too much as to dimple the valve.

Hope this helps

it had a pellet in it a JSB Diablo 25.39. I am new to this and have no Idea what you mean by have it tuned and what a tophat at .095 or what a pw at 4/8 is .

I basically got the rifle and pellets so I can shoot in my back yard and not bug the neighbors that was the big deciding factor in going with the SS. I can’t use powder guns because I do not live on 10+ acres.

Thanks for the info though I will be looking up that stuff.

Did you shoot it with a pellet or just the air? What grain was the pellet if you used a pellet? Mine is very quiet but how you have it tuned will make a big difference in noise. The faster you push the pellet the more air you will be using so the louder it will get. I use 31 gr. pellets at 960 and mine is pretty quiet. My top hat is at .095 and my pw is only at 4 / 8.
