Q:

Machine suggestions

Hi all!

I am in the middle of upgrading my workshop (want to try my hand at building a few air rifles among other things).

I just bought a new enco lathe (12×36) and am looking to purchase a CNC mill. I have a CNC router and am very familiar with autoCAD and CAM softwares.

My budget including tooling for the mill is around $6K. Anyone have any recomendations? I’ve been looking at the Sieg KX3 (servo model) and it looks to be about what I need. Servos are a must. Any word on these mills? They look to be one of the better far east type mills.

From today’s 9×30 digest:

I hate to sell it but I’ve recently aquired a Logan 10in and a Southbend Model A Precision so the 9×30 has to go to make room in my shop. Its in great condition. Standard everything, $700.00 and pick-up in Pensacola.

You can contact me at alantrest at gmail dot com if you are interested.

I’m keeping my Lathemaster Mill tho so I’m still a Lathemaster fan. <grin>

Thanks Walt. I know full well what goes into “making stuff”. I own a PCB manufacturing business.

TexasB would you kindly respond to your PMs so I can decide what to do with the adapter I made for you? If you ever start machining you will appreciate what it takes to make stuff.

Thanks for the info. I’ll give him a call. The only thing that bugs me with that model is it uses steppers.

No shit. 😀

I really don’t know anything more about them then what we see there. Chris at LMS is a good guy you might give him a call and see what he can tell you about it.

Thanks Adam. Thats the one that got me looking. Are they worth a poo? I have bought a few things from the littlemachineshop before (for my 9×20 HF lathe) and they seemed good folks to deal with.
