Made me a pellet/ bullet trap.
I have been trying to think of the best way to build a trap , i got tired of thinking and just winged it.
I still have to finish it up and add a top to keep the rain out, hopfully i can leave it out side .and keep a dry target on it , for those sight ins in the morning.

Well i am finished ,i think.
I looked all around trying to decide what to put in front of the steel plate to quieten down the noise if i did not use the duct seal with heavy pellets and high velocity and ended up putting a rubber mat all the way to the back and filling the entire rear of the trap with rubber mulch i found at Lowe’s.
It is just as quiet as the duct seal and will stop a 22 long rifle without letting it hit the back steel plate as long as i don’t shoot at the top targets on the paper.
I did a test with this rubber mulch with a 22 long rifle, it will penetrate right at 5” to 6” of the rubber mulch.
I put duct seal in the mulch at 3” and the bullet just barely went into the duct seal.
If I had not already bought the duct seal i would have been happy with the rubber mulch, it works with high vel heavy pellet loads with the condor and you can only hear the pellet hit the paper target.
With the carpet around the front of the target it makes it quieter than shooting at paper or a box in the open.

Yes the back plate is 1/4”, it will take care of rimfire just fine i have already tested it.
you have to have a piece of cardboard in there behind the target to hold the splatter in.
I may make a false back behind the heavy steel and fill it with sand to deaden the noise when the bullet hits the steel.or cover the outside with the spray foam in a can , don’t know yet been to busy to mess around with it in the last few days.
I am goning to line the inside woth carpet or maybe the foam,???
It looks like the back plate is angled and at least 1/4 inch thick. I dont see any pellet getting past that. It would probably stop a 22 rimfire.
Dude you need a pellet deflector for the extra heavies that are fired hard. You need to make you a new deflector that is put in at a angle dude, forget the duct seal for this sucker as the heavies will just hit the angled deflector and roll all of toward the bottom with the direction of the angle to trap the pellets…
10ga. metal is best also if you have a strong rifle… Make sure to have your sides welded up good and secure as well as the catcher in the front bottom section as the pellets silde into the deflector and wrap around and hit the front lower catcher, those really hard EJ’s can tear some chit up dude LOL… You darn sure don’t want them bending the catcher down any and a pellet sneak over the edge and come back at ya LOL…
This is not so quite like this, but it does a great job on the bad boy pellets

well the one layer of putty will stop the 15 grain at 850 to 900 stuff just fine but the 32 grain pellets go thru to the metal backing that holds the duct seal. so the silent trap part for the heavy stuff is going to need more layers of dict seal or i am going to have to just shoot into the metal trap part of the target with heavy pellets.
Maybe fill it with carpet or something to quieten down the pellets hitting the metal backing.
if your talking about the one inside the target,that is a removable duct seal partition.
I made it to be able to slide out and just shoot into the steel back plate if i wanted to turn the condor up, or shoot rim fire into it.if the noise did not matter . i have a silent trap with a back up that the condor cannot shoot thru .
I recessed the target so that i can put carpet around the target area to send the slap back at me and not out side ways around target.and to quieten down the pellet slap from when the pellet hits the target paper, which is pretty much the only sound you hear when i shoot the condor.
trying to do away with any sound at all, so as to not make neighbors wonder what i am doing.
If your talking about the rear of the trap that is a peice of plate steel.
