Magnetic Chuck
when a magnetic chuck is used to machine a magnetizable metal part, is this part then demagnetized?
Pros and cons of residual magnetics and demagnetizing of machined metals.
Or Point me to information on this subject 😕

I don’t know if this will help much or not, but my neighbor had a magnetic chuck for his surface grinder. He asked me one day why it wouldn’t hold shit. I looked at it for a bit and saw that he hooked it up directly to 115VAC. I suggested he put in a rectifier diode so it would only see one side of the sine wave. Worked great after that. He said afterwards that if he had a piece that wanted to stick to the chuck due to residual magnetism, he simply took the rectifier out of the circuit by closing a switch around it. The part was then easy to remove with full wave AC on.
Maybe running AC would be a good way to demagnetize your part as you slowly lift it off the table? Kind of like a degaussing coil of sorts?
If you were really creative, you could make a circuit that allowed you to instantly reverse the DC current. I would think you could launch a part off the table and catch it in midair to impress your fellow machinists! 🙂 However, you might end up launching it through the ceiling a couple times before you get the thing tuned in…
