Matador R3 efficiency(new reg) after 10k
I’ve got the latest regulator version R3 Matador 25 long.
Over 10k shots on gun since March and I’ve had it tuned to 885fps. Decided being I hunt with it and I was doing take down and lube might as well put reg closer to stock setting for a bit more FPE. Prior accuracy tests showed the JSB 25s to group dam close to MOA consistently at 100 yds up to 1000fps.
So I reset reg and ran a few chrony strings today and some accuracy tests.
200-100 bar fill per guns gauge and fill tank gauge= 74 shots at 943fps for 50FPE
2.4fps SD,10fps max spread with unsorted JSB 25s straight from tin(3 consecutive runs to verify).
Only took a look at pellet skirt to make sure it wasnt deformed.
Accuracy was still a golf ball size group at my 120yd target and a sub-dime size group at 50yds.
Just like my 22 long these regs only get better over time.

At 885fps I got about the same on initial setup when I got it from original owner. I havent run a complete string in a while(4-5k shots IIRC). Usually just run a short string to verify fps still set before weekend hunt or long shoot session.
). It disassembled rather to easy to my liking(snug just not my kind of tight) and while it produced excellent shot strings before I wonder if a tiny amount of air may have seeped by reg body threads bleeding off a tiny amount of efficiency each shot.
I did complete teardown on reg.Cleaned everything, relubed and torqued reg body together as hand tight as possible(most folks would need wrenches to undo my hand tight
I also measured length of valve pin protruding out and it was at 3.85mm. Original owner installed new style valve rod when he adjusted reg just because he wanted to.
I filed down exposed end to Eds recommended 3.5mm length. The HST is a hair more than 1 full turn in than previous. Perhaps the tighter reg body, longer hammer throw, stiffer HST (less or reduced hammer bounce? if there was one) all added up to the results I got.
