Matador R3
Ed, you want to come back stronger than before? (Ok probably not stronger but still strong player)
Probably the Matador R3 at around 1300 USD could do the job.
Too many players in the “multishot segment” to rely only on the R3M sales (IMHO)
To my knowledge, the R3 was the only “adult single shot BP” on the market.
The “Matador R3 Hunter”, available in long, standard, compact and sub-compact size 😀
And since the design being real simple, just add an “easy caliber swap” option and you are done.

I have a fully customized Cricket with perfectly machined LW barrel and custom shroud. The gun was totally taken apart, treated with the right lubing and high quality orings and assembled again. Right now it is a little bit more accurate than the stock EDdy at the distance of 50 meters indoor benchrest style. However, I have x20 scope on Cricket vs x10 on EDdy. Cricket is a way heavier which is important while shooting benchrest. So maybe it is just me. All in all, both guns are able to produce 0.5 inch groups at 50 meters indoor.
When it comes to field shooting, EDdy is the right gun for me. I need to reduce the weight of Cricket to make it usable in the field.
Well done Shooter 3…great post. The young Ed…no wonder he gets all the great looking girls. 🙂 Part of your comment caught my eye and has me wondering if I bought the wrong gun??? Have you found the Cricket to be more accurate (I assume you’re referring to the bullpup vs bullpup)? What caliber are you referencing, just out of curiosity. I’ve seen very little on this match up. Would love to hear some details of your experience…or anyone else’s, on the subject. What I have read and watched has ben inconclusive…sometimes Matador, sometimes Cricket. ❓ ❓ ❓
Not to stray too far from the topic at hand but has anyone ever tested and found that single shot hand loading significantly improved accuracy? For shits and giggles, I tested single against magazine loading for a total of (20) 5 shot groups, for each method, using my Marauder. I did the same, with the Matador, for (10) 5 shot groups for each method. My conclusion was that there is actually no difference, in the case of my guns. (Marauder is .62″ group and Matador is .53″ group average @ 50 yards, with either method- FYI) … .25 cal
Perhaps, with more accurate guns, the single shot loading comes into play. I would be interested in anyone’s input on the subject. Thanks in advance.
It is a ridiculous theory
“Gestalt” is German word, isn’t it?
I cannot agree with you more. That is exactly what I feel. EDgun is somehow special. Maybe it is all about its balance and proportions. Maybe it is Ed’s spirit in it. Hard to describe. Even though Cricket may be more accurate, EDgun is my gun of choice.
Are there any other manufacturers who live together with community like Ed does? I do not think so. Do you have a privilege to discuss about Vulcan, Cricket, Taipan or Bobcat with their creators in public? Nah. Do they present their guns in YouTube. Nope. Just think about it.

You can say what you want but for me EDgun is a living legend.

thats a very youthful looking ed!
respect to the man. living legend.
Wingman convinced me that head size played the biggest role in accuracy. I have not noticed any difference in the gun with a single shot option. The single shot is simple but I have not found it to be anymore accurate.

I meant EDgun in general. I can agree that R3 may have a better design. The magazine was added because the market enforced that and the magazine is simply more convenient. I can also agree that R3 can be more accurate because of the more precise way of pellet placing in the chamber.
Living legend?
I mean why not.
As long as we have the freedom to choose what we want and nobody tells us what we want, we are lucky people.
For me personally the R3 was a more living legend than the R3M but probably that’s just me and if you disagree, no problem at all.

I don’t know why but I knew in advance you were going to disagree ….. 😀
I disagree with “The R3M is one of the most perfect bullpups on the market.”.
All due respect for the R3 but the R3M? Please, there are much better options around 😀 (IMHO)
The “perfect bullpub” went from 2700 USD to 1350 USD, I wonder why
i guess with the flood of new bullpups coming onto the market only time will tell whether the Edgun will remain a contender. :3:
I disagree. The R3M is one of the most perfect bullpups on the market. Interchanging barrels is a stupid idea that is nothing more than a marketing ploy. Ever hear of the Sako Quad? Terrible idea. Like I really want to tear down my regulator every time I swap out a caliber. One has to own an EDgun to really appreciate the little qualities of the R3M. I have had every new bullpup in my safe with the exception of the Taipan. The EDgun is my go to rifle. Today I put the Vulcan in my son’s hand and we spent the day hunting ground squirrels. After 2 squirrels he said “dad do you mind taking the Vulcan, I just like the EDgun better. There is an EDgun gestalt that just can’t be beat.
I like that idea. I would be happy if he offered breech and barrel assemblies that could be switched out. .22 and .25 barrels, and either single or multi shot breeches. The way they are designed I think they are interchangeable. Of course the barrel is torqued to the sight rail so you could leave your scope attached!

I have a new .22 Cricket Standard Syn. It was heavy so I purchased a stock from Rapid-70. Now it’s a nice field gun :winkn:
