Q:

Maybe Leapers isnt crap..

Ive only been in the hobby for a year now. My first scope was a 3-9×40 60$ center point with no AO. I bought that scope thinking I would target shoot with my first pcp- a marauder .25, out to 100 yards. LOL, yes I was a noob and my colors were bright. I quickly realized how wrong my purchase for purpose was. Sold that scope and got another center point, the trusty walmart 70$ 4-16×40 with AO! Well, I was at least getting on the right track. The scope was decent for what it was, and I wouldve lived with it had the thick reticle not bugged me so much. So I bit the bullet and laid down the cash for decent glass- an Optisan Viper 4-16×50. Finally owning a decent scope I realized that the scope department ISNT the place you want to be cheap. Next I bought a hawke 6-24×50. Another good scope that I shouldve held on to, but I mostly only hunt now and prefer a 4-16.
So getting to my subject, the Leapers brand. By initially buying a cheap scope, I formed an opinion that any sub 200$ scope is cheap for a reason. Well, my opinions are beginning to change once again. I will be the proud new owner of a Cricket .25 wst tomorrow! Ive already posted this a few times on here, but hey, Im excited! So PA was having their 10% off + free shipping over 150$ deal a few days ago. I needed pellets and a few cheap accessories for my new bug before it arrives and wanted to jump on the PA deal. I wasnt close to the free shipping price with what was in my cart so I started looking for a light, compact scope to try on my new pup for the heck of it. I came across the Leapers/UTG (whichever or both names? idk) 3-12×44 with 30mm tube with side focus, 80mm paralax side wheel (I had one already). Illumination isnt important to me but whatever, ill take it, and GLASS ETCHED RETICLE. The glass etched reticle is of HUGE importance when it comes to these scopes I believe. It has a very nice THIN mil dot reticle. Im actually very pleased with this scopes size/ weight/ clarity. The reticle isnt just the standard looking mil dot I thought it would be though, looks more like a hawke half-mil reticle with the dot dash dot. I was stoked when I noticed looking through it. I have to say, all in all this scope is very decent for 150$. I would love if it was a 4-16 power, but you cant have everything.
If you may be sorta a semi-novice in this hobby like I am, and have overlooked the leapers, give it a second look. At least this scope. I must admit, Ive only played with it and mounted it on my prod so far just to get a feel for it, but at this point all it has to do is paralax adjust properly and hold zero, and I’ll definitely be holding on to this one. If I knew how to post pics on here I wouldve made this a full, thorough, pic filled review. Thats how satisfied I am with my purchase at this point. I’ll include a link to it for others to check out-

You have to be careful on PA if your looking for this scope though, because they have another on there thats identical but costs 130$. I first had the cheaper one in my cart until I was curious enough to want to know what the 20$ diff was all about. Its the glass etched VS wire reticle. Absolutely worth the difference.

I think it makes a nice bull pup scope for people on a budget. I have my optisan on backup if my infatuation is short lived for this scope though 😀

The few of us that needed service in Canada got it without any issues.

Cheers, Rick

Glad that all of those who have a Leapers scope are happy with them . However , like all things in life shit happens . I got a UTG 3-9×32
NEW GEN. COMPACT CQB SCOPE and just my bad luck it was a defective piece of shit . How it passed QC I will never know . No matter
how many times that I tried to adjust for elevation nothing happened ever. Elevation would never move regardless if I tried moving it up
or down . Worst part was that I bought it before I ordered my Vulcan and return time ran out before my Vulcan arrived . Well , like I said
shit happens and we don’t like it when it happens to us , but as life is sometimes we have to live with it .

I have three Leapers scope that work great. Great value for the money!!

I have the 4-16×56 on my old Benji pumper.
The rad look just like the rad in my Hawke scope, very fine and detailed very nice for the price !
I try to explain the added cost of this scope to the guys on YF they just didn’t get the added price difference compared to the non etched. 😉

I really like the 3X12X44 also. Timmy Mac1, sold me on it.

According to him Leapers got their start and all their tooling from Hakko. Hakko contracted and taught Leapers to make scopes for them and was caught selling these scopes as made in Japan. They wouldn’t have been caught, but they fell on hard times and failed to pay Leapers. Leapers sued and got to keep the tooling. So anyone with a Beeman or Hakko scope out there may have a Leapers without knowing it.

I’m not saying Leapers is still making Japanese quality scopes, just that they have the know how and ability to do so. I think they get overlooked a lot do to their cheap prices, but you’d be hard pressed to find a better scope at twice the price. Not everyone needs expensive glass.

If you do not use the illumination remove the battery.

I still like the scope.. the clarity, size, etc. But now I’ve found an issue with the illuminated reticle. I don’t ever use it, and having it over the ocular lens really interferes with trying to attach scope cam devices. I rigged something up so its not an issue now, but its still annoying having a feature I don’t need getting in the way.

I have the same scope. I love the zero feature that allows you to adjust your holdovers and then return to zero. The only issue I have is the space allowed for lights, lasers, etc. it is a small scope, but it isn’t light. :2cents:

Yeah, I have a 3x12x40, clear as a bell.

What kind of bell are you looking through, never been able to look/See through a bell? I wouldn’t buy any scope clear as a bell, that’s bout as sharp a bowling ball!

Yeah, I have a 3x12x40, clear as a bell.

I agree. Im converted. I was looking at my experience of budget scopes with bias, lumping the leapers brand in the same basket as the real cheap centerpoints. Glad I went back for a try. Ive never looked through a B&L, March, SB, or any of the crazy priced scopes, and cant imagine my eyes could really discern much a difference from a good hawke or optisan. But people who have usually swear the difference is pronounced.

I have two Leapers, a 4-12X44 SWAT Compact I bought several years ago and now a 3-9X32 Bug Buster I bought a couple of months ago. I have also looked through several other models of theirs. I would not turn my nose up at any of their optics, most especially for the price tag. Yes, you can buy better, but you are going to pay for it and most of what you will get is just bragging rights.
